Is there a way to prevent weapon switching when picking up weapons?

Because it really ruins the metronome item.

Yes, but if you're using the metronome on a particular weapon (eg the polaris) your choices are either to never pick up weapons again or switch back to the weapon that you were using originally and break the metronome.

The game switching the gun you just picked up at all is just annoying. It also messes up your favorites, so every time you pick up a new gun you have to stop and fix your favorites back to what you wanted. It's not a big deal at first, but if you play the game a lot it gets really tiresome really quickly.

Yeah I don't know why that mechanic is in at all, honestly. Drives me crazy. The metronome is more of a rarity (still bad though) but as Ranis said the favorites thing is enough to make you want to skip guns. I don't think I've ever liked it in any game really - given the option I turn it off in FPS, too. =P

I mean they gave the controller people the option to do... whatever it was they were complaining about.

I know of the fact that a crosshair was added for controllers, not sure if shooting in the direction you are facing was wanted but got also added some time ago.
