Dragun fight is just unfairly hard and should be redesigned.
I mean, its just impossible for to avoid some of his attacks unless you got a ton of blanks and hp. I know that final boss is supposed to be hard, but he should be beatable in every run, not just the one you get most op guns and get lucky.

All of his attacks can be avoided consistently with the correct strategy. It really only gets messy when his daggers stay out for too long.

What are the "unavoidable" attacks you're referring to specifically?

I literally beat the Dragun on my first try. Sometimes it's the luck of the draw with weapons and actives/passives that you get, other times its skill. But after you pass his first stage, his second stage is stupidly easy.

I got lucky with Double Vision and the Patriot, with Super Space Turtle as backup and constant fire support. We'll see what card I'll get dealt with the next time I go up against him.
When he flaps his wings or shoots the bouncing bullets, go to one of the corners and dodge towards the wall when necessary. The knives are the only really difficult part of the fight.

The only attack i've seen that i would claim as unavoidable is his breath attack that goes on for like half a minute and tracks you. Eventually, you'll be cornered, and the damn breath attack is too damn fat to dodge-roll through, an inevitable hit... But if there is a way to avoid it, i wouldn't mind knowing, because it FORCES me to use blanks, otherwise.

Everything else is fair game though, even easy, sometimes. The daggers are a pain but you can take them out (or turn em into chickens, which is faster), and most of his attacks are either easily side-stepped (like the pistols) or require a single dodge-roll (uzi's, fire-breathing from left to right, or his RPG).

the one where the bullets come from two sides behind him and curve around him.

Just go to one of the bottom corners during this attack. Only attacks from the left can hit you at the right corner, and only attacks from the right can hit you at the left corner.

being directly on the doorway works well too. Just dodgeroll down if a bullet comes at you and be ready to blank or move if the pattern becomes dicey.

The slow breath is only dangerous when you're in the middle of the arena while he starts doing it. Otherwise, you should be able to walk to the other side without getting hit (stay at the bottom and only go as fast as you have to).

Pretty much this. Stay in a corner and dodge roll the few bullets coming towards you from the opposite side.

Hm, my tactic against the side-bullets just tends to be staying at the the doorway, and dodging through bullets that are low-enough to hit me, 95% of the attack doesn't even touch you save for those very few low bullets, when on the bottom of the arena. But that other method might work better, who knows, not gonna risk it when going for a master round though...

Figured the slow-breath might be playing the waiting game but i hoped it had a better-designed trick to it then this. The whole waiting instead of dodging just seems like bad design when everything else is dodge/sidestep-or-die. Oh well, whatever works, though i'll probably end up repeating old habits and standing in the middle-ish.

With the long breath, the trick is walking through the gaps that form inside the breath, and rolling when you see an opportunity.

You're talking about the wrong final boss, bud. The Dragun is easy.

Dragun is very easy. It just seems a bit overwhelming the first few times you get there.
Just keep playing.

I dont think i got what it takes to just perfectly dodge through tiny gaps between fast moving bullets. Im pretty sure that if i had a controller, this would be much easier, cause with keyboard you can move only in 8 directions, and thats not enough for a game like this.
Pantera May 9, 2016 @ 10:11am
dragun is realy not that hard, he is also not the final boss.

I can do this relatively easy and i'm playing with KB/M and i'm not a particularly skilled player either. I also tried my XBOX360 controller, but i really don't feel comfortable using it at all. I'd say, the majority of gungeoneers actually prefer KB/M. Both control methods have their up's and downs, but in a game like this, it's 100% personal preference.

So don't shift the blame on that one. Dragun is a boss, which diffulty is all about it's intimidation. You could say it's kinda designed like a Dark Souls boss in that regard - it just looks difficult, but his bullet-patterns are actually easier to dodge than the one's from any 4th chamber boss imo.

Here's a guide, that should help you:
