What are the "unavoidable" attacks you're referring to specifically?
I got lucky with Double Vision and the Patriot, with Super Space Turtle as backup and constant fire support. We'll see what card I'll get dealt with the next time I go up against him.
Everything else is fair game though, even easy, sometimes. The daggers are a pain but you can take them out (or turn em into chickens, which is faster), and most of his attacks are either easily side-stepped (like the pistols) or require a single dodge-roll (uzi's, fire-breathing from left to right, or his RPG).
Just go to one of the bottom corners during this attack. Only attacks from the left can hit you at the right corner, and only attacks from the right can hit you at the left corner.
The slow breath is only dangerous when you're in the middle of the arena while he starts doing it. Otherwise, you should be able to walk to the other side without getting hit (stay at the bottom and only go as fast as you have to).
Pretty much this. Stay in a corner and dodge roll the few bullets coming towards you from the opposite side.
Figured the slow-breath might be playing the waiting game but i hoped it had a better-designed trick to it then this. The whole waiting instead of dodging just seems like bad design when everything else is dodge/sidestep-or-die. Oh well, whatever works, though i'll probably end up repeating old habits and standing in the middle-ish.
You're talking about the wrong final boss, bud. The Dragun is easy.
Just keep playing.
I can do this relatively easy and i'm playing with KB/M and i'm not a particularly skilled player either. I also tried my XBOX360 controller, but i really don't feel comfortable using it at all. I'd say, the majority of gungeoneers actually prefer KB/M. Both control methods have their up's and downs, but in a game like this, it's 100% personal preference.
So don't shift the blame on that one. Dragun is a boss, which diffulty is all about it's intimidation. You could say it's kinda designed like a Dark Souls boss in that regard - it just looks difficult, but his bullet-patterns are actually easier to dodge than the one's from any 4th chamber boss imo.
Here's a guide, that should help you:
