What are the alters for.

Ive ran across a few of these where it just says the alter is empty.Any clue what this is?

There is a secret behind it. I won't spoil it for you, but I'll give you a hint for the first step: There are waterbarrels and fireplaces on the first floor...

try pressing "E" whilst your inside the chimney

altar is an enter to secret level 2. to use it you need to bring special item from secret level 1.

However, you must get the "item" from the 1st secret level to the alter WITHOUT GETTING HIT. I haven't even tried it yet because I know it's pretty hard.

You'll need two keys after you unlock the fireplace. After that, there's an item you find that may as well have "INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT" Written across it in sharpie. Take the relic to the shrine, then pray to Kaliber that you survive her temple.
