Secrets?
I always get the map and waste my blanks on secret walls that don't appear. How do i open them.

Also, How do I detect them without the map?

Shoot the walls

Use any gun other than your pistol. It'll make cracks appear on the walls if there's a secret room beyond.

Typically if you buy a Map item and it lets you know where the secret room is, make sure you test the walls before using your blank to make sure you're entering from the correct direction.

Did it say something about shooting the walls to reveal secrets?
All I understood was when it showed up, use a blank.

I'm pretty sure it did

I think what happened is they positioned an enemy near the crack place then expected you to miss and reveal it?

No, most secret rooms are easy to find because there usually in the room where you get the chest and odd rooms, you can check if one might be there if there is enough space for one on the map

Hm, Ok. I got the heck blaster, used a good 400 ammo then died.
That thing was probably a secret room finder.

I don't think buying maps to reveal secret rooms is ever worth the money... Don't waste money on it.

When trying to find secret rooms I use a gun that I will never use in combat. Then I shoot walls that have a good amout of space (about a small room's worth) in the chest rooms, end elevator room, and NPC rooms. After the boss if you have equal or less than the number of blanks that you would have when going to the next chamber, use a blank in the shop and/or use a blank in rooms that have a wall that has a good amount of space. If I find one, I stop looking for others because I don't know if two can generate in the same chamber. I've been pretty OK with finding them but the rewards have been anywere from nice to meh to bland. I have been looking hard for them because I've heard of two NPCs that can be in secret rooms and a room with a note and three chests. Hope this helps. Also protip: Enemy gunfire can also reveal secret rooms.

Okay the thing to remember is this is NOT like Isaac with secret rooms... from what I've seen just like most of the other rooms in gungeon there is a hallway inbetween the opening and the secret room so look for areas on the map with a pretty large space for it. (note I'm basing this off of like 4? secret rooms so this may not be all of them) also the rooms are 1 way in the same way out so if anything like Isaac it would be like the super secret room but it can be placed in a location like a regular one.

Well yeah as people have said, maps aren't worth buying, shooting non default gun opens cracks that then grow the more you shoot it, blanks open it up.
But damned if I can figure out the secret room placements, I'll never be dedicated to shooting every wall looking for them because they're usually not worth an ammo investment either. I guess in time figuring out what places are most likely will come.

I really wish secret room cracks were just extremely small and there from the start, the contents aren't typically so amazing to justify more than paying attention to walls with your eyes.

Don't waste ammo to look for secret rooms, if you have some spare blanks after the boss use them in the shop/chest room/elevator room that brings you to the next level.
Or in dead ends.

Map item is kinda useless.
After you clear the map and kill the boss, go to a room that looks like a dead end/surrounded by empty space, usually a chest room, and use a bullet or two on the walls to see if theres cracks.

If not, you can check the elevator room (the one you go down to next floor) and check there.

If not, use a blank in the shop.

And if its not there, you're unlucky and its in a random room which, again, you'll have to use expeirence and the map to see any rooms surrounded by empty space.
