Some general tips and tricks
Just thought I'd share a few tidbits I noticed a lot of people aren't aware of and that could help them out a bit:

1 - There are always 2 chests per floor, this is widely known. What is less obvious, is that one of these chests will always give a gun, and the other will (99% of the time, at least) be either a passive or active item. Use this to your advantage, for example, if you have only one key, a decent weapon, already gotten a passive from a chest in that floor and the remaining chest is a brown one, it might be better to save the key for the next floor, as brown chests contain good passives and actives, but usually very poor weapons. I have gotten guns from both chests before, but it is very, very rare. Personally, I always go for the passive chests, the weapons ones might not be too important if you already have a reasonable loadout.

2 - Never pick up keys in a floor where you have not visited the shop yet. That forces the shop to generate at least one key in it's stock. Picking up keys from secret rooms also counts, so leave them there until after you enter the shop. Rat does not steal them, anyway.

3 - Special rooms (shrines, special vendors etc.) have colored torches by their entrances. This can be useful when you're in a tight spot as many special rooms give items or health.

4 - If you have Wax Wings or a Jetpack, you can fly inside the shooting gallery mini-game and shoot the targets point blank. You do not upset the NPC or get cursed for doing it, so go nuts.

5 - Money that enemies drop into pits respawns on the floor next to you. Items, however, do not. So be careful about killing mimics near pits, or swapping active items around them.

6 - You can shoot inside of rooms before entering them, by standing at the doorway. Use guns like the Corsair, Mahoguny, Plunger and so on to clear out or at least damage enemies a bit before you go in. Just make sure you're not firing into a chest room.

7 - Oubliette can only have mun.chers as special rooms.

8 - Any weapons that leave water or poison on the floor can be used to douse the fireplace. This includes even less obvious things like the final bullets from The Judge or Mailbox.

I'll add more tips to the list as I remember them. For now, I hope this helps you guys.

1 is wrong you can get 3 chest on a floor and all chest on a floor may not have a weapon
if you beat the boss of a floor and didnt get a gun the entire floor it will force a gun spawn for the reward but you can get 2-3 items from chest. chest dont have a force gun active on them except maybe the rainbow one since its not a D - S chest

I have never seen a floor with a third chest room. Of course chests can drop as room clear rewards, but those are completely random, both in amount, type and contents. By all means, post videos of you getting no guns from either of the two chest rooms, then. Even if it can happen, it will be as extremely rare as getting guns from both chests.

I have been observing the contents of chests for well over 60 hours and one is always a gun, the other one almost always a passive/active (very, very rarely a gun as well, had only one instance where that happened in that whole time observing it and I'm not sure I didn't have any items that affected chest loot when it did happen).

Just see for yourself when you're playing.

I think Ring of Etherealness might work as well, but gotta make it quick before it runs out.

Something else, fud: If you haven't obtained a gun on the floor yet and you kill the boss, it'll have a gun every time. It's a good way to switch up loot that'll spawn out of boxes or out of chests to keep this in mind.

Enemies that damage you will NOT DROP CASINGS. They are literally programmed to not drop any casings if they damage you. This means at the very least, avoid taking damage from larger enemies if you can because they almost always drop a silver casing or more.

Yeah, good reminder about the boss, you can use that to your advantage for chest contents.

As for the second part, it only applies to regular enemies. Mini-bosses (Gun Nut, Lead Maidens etc.) still drop some money even if they hit you.

Are you 100% sure about this? I'm pretty sure that i didn't get anything from them some times

Something, i've observed and like to share: Secret rooms never generate in between other rooms, even if there's more than anough space. They always seem to spawn at the outer parts of a chamber.

Since shops, chest rooms and the elevator down to the next chamber are often at the outer parts of the map, you'll find secret rooms commonly at those rooms. I'd always check the shop last, unless you're desperate, since you can't check by firin' your gun, without making the shopkeeper mad.

- Always shoot chests before opening them.
- The Hunter's dog detects mimics and will bark at them.
- Don't pick the locks of important chests or doors unless you have no other choice.
- Always scout out all the chests on a floor before you open any of them.
- Don't fight boosted enemies, fight the chanters that boosts them.
- Pick off easier targets first. They're almost always the source of "that one bullet" that you happen to dodge right into. They also reduce the amount of safe areas simply by existing.
- If cornered by tiny slimes, just roll through them. They'll die.
- NEVER position yourself NORTH of the Bullet King. Ever. Move in a U shape.
- Avoid ground effects when looking for the caped bullet. you don't want it to spawn into a fire.

Im loving this thread, great tips everyone!

Something I see that a lot of people not aware of, and a lot of ppl take damage from mimics.

While shooting 1 bullet or having the pup makes a decent check for a mimic, simply waiting a second or two and watching the chest will tell you if its a mimic or not. Theres a very obvious breathing animation.

Also, apparently if you fighting a mimic, you can backtrack to a previous room and the mimic wont follow you, allowing you to easily kill it while it waits at the door. (unfortunately wasnt able to confirm it yet, only heard it from a friend).

"previous floor" should be replaced with "previous room".

Yes this works BUT if you kill the mimic from outside the chest room you should get in there pretty quick because the rat will steal the item when you don't get in as fast as possible

Updated first post with a couple tips regarding the first secret level.

for OP's 2nd tip, If you don't pick up the key won't the R.R. pick it up? then instead of having a free key you gotta buy one?
