One way to mitigate is to use the pilots lockpick item for a 50% chance to unlock a chest (though it will be jammed on failiure)
Also try to prioritise better chests, don't use you last key lightly and consider that brown chests are not really worth the key (so just lockpick them unless you have a lot of keys)
Also, the shop will always carry a key(s) if you haven't picked up any previously to finding the shop.
It doesn't matter if a key drops from clearing a room, as long as you don't actually pick it up, the shop will still follow this rule. So, don't pick up keys when they drop until you find the shop. The rat doesn't steal keys, don't worry about leaving them behind.
You must have been unlucky with locked shops, but it happens. Save 1 key untill you know you can get into the shop. Dont unlock low-tier chests untill all the rooms/chests have been found. Then you make the call on what chests to open.
Also, the most awesome guns and items usually dont drop from brown chests. So skip them or use lock pick (unless its lvl 1 and u feel you need a gun)
Ironically enough, after playing as much as I've played and despite knowing that Brown chests are the lowest tier, I find that they drop better (not rarer) stuff than blue ones in general.
If you want to maximize keys, you can squeeze a few more keys every run by not picking up keys if they drop before you visit the shop. If you don't pick them up, the shop will be forced to have at least one key in it for sale.
R.R. doesn't take keys. The Shopkeeper guarantees to hold at least one key if you haven't picked one up yet. You can leave them on the floor until you find the shop and buy one, and then boom: you can open both on any given floor.
If you're not getting hit that often and getting master chambers on bosses, you'll be rolling around in casings. SO MANY casings, you guys.
It means something along the lines of "Oh shi.t!" or "I'm screwed", as per the picture. It's kind of a curse word, but it's not really offensive out of context. Probably bleeped out for kids, more than for offensive potential.
