Room with a minecart and a large empty space?

Hi! I keep stumbling apon a room in Chamber 3 with a rectangular minecart track at the bottom (+minecart) and above that there is a large empty space of spikes with no visible end. There are a few tracks to the side which are dead ends but they have no carts on them. When I shoot upwards across the abyss something explodes but I don't know what. Is there some late game mechanic or item I'm missing out on here that would allow me to cross it? Thanks!

Uhm... I did just encounter a similar room in Chamber 4, but there are no minecarts. Just a big empty abyss of spikes.

Hint: try shooting something that leaves water trail in that room.

try reloading your standard weapon close to the edge or using a water or gasoline based gun- you may find something interesting.

And now there's another room XD theres a room I keep finding in the first Chamber with nothing it aside from a picture of an old man. I can't interact with it at all, seemingly. If you don't think I should know, don't tell me!

You have to stare directly at the old man long enough. Eventually you will gain an appreciation for fine art.

What is under the painting? Why are there blue barrels (that you can kick) on the first floor?

if you´re talking about a barrel that leaves water when you kick it, those barrels are for entering in a 'secert chamber'. HINT: try to use them in the fire that you ALWAYS see in the first floor :D
