Altar Room?
What does this room do? I go up to the altar and he only option do nothing. Any important uses?

you need to put the crest of the secret level of the first floor

Yeah, that room always appears in Chamber 2. You can unlock a secret by bringing a crest from the secret level accessed via the fireplace in chamber 1. Note you'll lose the crest if you take a hit though, so don't pick it up until after a boss.
