That has nothing to do with the void puddles that appear around the gungenon and the blacksmith, what are those then?

Kill your past as the void to get a cool unlock.

You don't have to throw a weapon into the puddle, just stand in it and press the "use/pickup" key
Then kill your past for a neat unlock

They ruined the weird and funny dialogue/atmosphere the last character on the new floor has by giving him this godawful voice and demystify him completely.

It's a nod to Metal Gear Solid 1 - solid snake vs liquid snake in helicopter on the roof. I absolutely loved it and I think it fits perfectly in the game, considering there's about a dozen or so MGS nods.
