R&G Department seems wothless?
to be honest it's a shame since this new floor doesn't reward you in any way: it has no chest, it is not randomized, not even the enemies are randomized and you have to throw away two items+1hp to do a pretty hard bossfight to get just any boss reward
(except for rainbow runs i can't find any reason to do this new floor)

i'm thankful for all the free content but this new floor left a bitter taste in my mouth :c

I thought the same thing. Maybe we're still missing something? It's still pretty new.

The boss fight’s pretty easy once you get the patterns down tbh. It’s Certantly no rat fight wallmonger, high preist, dragun, or lich.

Plus the boss always gives you 2 items back the boss reward and a chest + pickups.
As for why one would do that floor?
Honestly it seems like a victory lap floor. Plus the boss fight is fun and wraps up one loose end and answers a question people have had about gungeon for awhile.
I've done it once and saw a streamer do it once. It seems fairly worthless. Giving up a master round (I forget how much it sells for though) to get a floor with little more than a standard boss reward with a few more side pickups doesn't seem great.

Oubliette is great for progression because it's boss loot and standard chests you get early in the run. Abbey is debatable because the fight is so hard and the loot isn't much better that it's not uncommon for the average player to come out with less resources than they went in with. Rat is a bad idea. If you're skilled enough to dispatch rat and get the huge loots, you're skilled enough to take on Dragun with a brown-tier gun and your starter anyway.

R&G doesn't really have much appeal besides being cool.

No your not rat isn’t that hard, not all brown quality guns suck. The sling is an excellent gun for boss killing.casey is a great room clearer. regular shotgun is good in general. Plauge pistol is decent. finished gun can also appear in D tier chests.

D tier also has some of the best passives and actives in the game.
Casey and regular shotgun aren't great DPS when you want to stand at a distance from Dragun at many points. I'm aware browns have some good stuff, but the point still stands if you can remove rat, you can remove dragun with almost anything.

They made Abbey better this update. Old King now drops normal boss loot AND a synergy chest.

Doing rainbow run gives you additional chest if you go for that secret level

I've done it yesterday and was a bit disappointed too. The level design was alright, the enemies were cool but it didn't feel rewarding to go through. I think this is the area you do once just for the unlock and then never go there again. If nothing else it's not worth the master round entry fee.

Also it sucks you don't get a single steam achievement for it.

I do it as a victory lap floor when I have 2 or 3 master rounds.

Does Agunim drop Hegemony Credits when you defeat him in the R&G Department?
