Haha wow (I really freaking suck at this)
Run after run after run. It feels like it keeps getting harder. Enemies I didn't used to see on earlier floors are now showing up there. Attack patterns being mixed with eachother, it gets me tense and I keep screwing up my dodge rolls like a dumbass. I get a few good runs and I make it to the boss of floor 4 once and THEN I die because it was the wizard guy (not the mindlayer) and couldn't survive the onslaught. Then my recent runs started sucking RNG-wise in terms of getting better guns and I keep taking unnecessary hits (THANKS GAAAAAAAAAAAAME) and now I'm just angry because I've been dying to enemies and everything sucks
I know you get good stuff if you don't get hit but it's so hard to keep that crap up and every time I get the death animation I'm like "OKAY JUST FREAKING DO IT ALREADY" Like god it's so slow, cuz I know I died, it's just easier to hit quick restart if I know I'm screwed.

TL;DR? FHIUSBUVPBUFBBUFVVBUFVUIOBFOIUFOIOISFOIH!1!!!
This is why I don't like roguelikes.

Besides that, the shortcut guy asks for exorbitant prices to reach the lower floors early, and I've heard plenty of people say that it's not worth it and I'm inclined to agree since you'd just be missing out on stuff.
I'm not sure if I really know what I'm doing when I'm playing through the game. Maybe I should just find chests first but save my keys until I figure out which chest to go for. Is there any difference between the blue and green chests? The big red ones are totally worth it.
If it's any enemies I usually hate fighting against while going through the floors, it's usually the ones with a tightly-weaved spreadshot that you just simply have to dodge through unless you get far enough, the ball n chain enemies on the early floors really suck especially in close quarters, and when I get down to the black powder mines I have trouble with those mushroom enemies that shoot their spores everywhere and then they just sit there and it limits my space. I also don't like those iron maidens that shoot out arrows everywhere and then all of a sudden they lock to your position and shoot right back at you? What, did Dio ZA WARUDO and fling knives my way while time was stopped? What a ridiculous enemy that just tanks your shots! Can't one-cycle it easily without a better gun. Ugh.
I only unlocked the shortcut to the second floor (never used it) so I can unlock the Robot.
I'm thinking about trying to unlock other floors just for item unlocks through rainbow mode, since you don't need keys and probably don't need money that much there either. Albeit I'm not sure can those even be unlocked in that mode.

There are 5 item tiers in this game, from worst to best they are: D, C, B, A and S. Chest color indicates what tier of item you'll get from it. From worst to best: Brown, Blue, Green, Red, Black.

That can help you decide the order to open the chests in if you lack keys, kinda. I find some D rank items more useful than some C or even B tier items for some situations.

When I see numerous spreadshot enemies, mushrooms or generally tricky or dangerous situations I mostly just hide behind a corner or pillar, move aside to shoot, then hide behind it again and repeat until they're dead.

Enemies with chained ball aside from being tanky are easy to deal with, just keep your distance. Lead Maidens are enemies you should just focus immediately, you can only damage them while they're open though. But keep in mind you can damage them from any direction while they're open, I though for so long time that you can only damage them if you shoot in their opening lol, making things much more difficult for myself then needed.

Also if there's too many things happening on the screen, feel free to abuse the time slowing feature when pressing the button for switching weapons. Slow down the time that way and take a good look at what's happening and plan out how to proceed.

Also game's wiki is your best friend, I always keep it open in my browser and alt-tab whenever I find item/weapon I'm not familiar with to check what they do and what stats they have.

make small goals to yourself. like doing the first and second floor with only your starting weapon, If you are able to do it you are already improved a bit. go step by step, don't force it, play as long as it's fun, that way eventually you will be fighting Lich in every run.
Lyrin Apr 12, 2019 @ 3:05pm
Brown chests are the worst and you might want to consider saving keys instead of opening them. Although depending on how much you like the starting weapons it can be worth it to take a chance. I usually either just smash them hoping for Junkan or open them if I have a ton of keys.

The Green chests are generally better than the blue ones... But all the chest have some degree of randomness to them.

Oh, and the shortcuts are pretty much intentionally ridiculously priced. It's kind of like you have to get good (or lucky) enough to get that far while saving a ton of resources.

...also I pretty much never use the shortcuts and have only unlocked them for the achievements lol.

Shortcuts are terrible to take, but worth doing.
1, you unlock boss rush.
2, you get some of the best items in the game like the gungine and Akey-47 which... lets you ignore keys for that run if you get it. Since it’s an infinite use key that’s also a pretty good gun.
3. Once you beat boss rush you get the bracket key which lets you deleat entire rooms of enemies.

I'm not sure if I really know what I'm doing when I'm playing through the game. Maybe I should just find chests first but save my keys until I figure out which chest to go for. Is there any difference between the blue and green chests? The big red ones are totally worth it.

All chests have something worth it in them and something worthless in them.

The red chests can either give you amazing guns like the M16 or Big shotgun.

But it can also give you terrible guns like the grasschopper or thunderclap.

It can also give you heart items thoigh that was partially fixed due to the devs adding a garenteed key if it does give you a heart item.

D tier chests (the worst one’s.) have some good guns like the regular shotgun, crossbow, winchester rifle, or snowballer.

It also has some terrible guns like the Klobbe or wind up gun.

Every chest even S tier chests (black tier) are a gamble as you can get good or terrible items.

I dunno, that's how it should be yet I keep finding myself opening them anyway.
And getting a gun, heart and key making it essentially free.

This,

Plus brown tier chests have

Plauge pistol, crossbow, winchester rifle, fossilized gun, machine pistol, regular shotgun, Casey, Lil bomber, snowballer, mailbox, and sling. For good guns.
And for passives and actives it has
takes a deep breath cause the list is long

Holey grail, Meat bun, Potion of lead skin, weird egg, supply drop, backpack, ammo belt, Scope, bullet time, decoy, double vision, potion of gun friendship, portable table device, battary bullets, Lichy trigger finger, amulet of the pit lord (has amazing synergies that are easy to get), spring heel boots, Cigarettes, blast helmet,
Lodestone ammolet, table tech sight, table tech money, table tech rage, battle standerd (if you can find a companion), and Dog.

Brown tier chests have ♥♥♥♥ item’s yes. But it also has a ton of decent to broke as ♥♥♥♥ items.

Good tips from all of ya! Now I know what the chest tiers are. Honestly I've had surprisingly good luck with the brown chests, as they usually give me ANOTHER KEY along with their contents! So I can just waltz up and open another chest. Huh, neat! There are some guns I can get from them that kinda suck, the T-shirt canon might as well be a toilet gun for all I care. But the rest I've found in it are actually quite good. It's usually the blue chests that can be hit or miss.
I think I've already seen sir junks alot after breaking a few chests, it's kinda cute that you get a walking companion made of all the trash you collect from trying to open chests without a key. Once I got him with another piece of trash in my inventory and he was wearing goggles this time and started beating up my enemies while I hid behind cover. Huh, neat! I guess I'll just wreck the blue chests then.
I assumed black chests always had cursed items in them, and they looked that way because they were demonic. Last times I opened them I got a shield that would do bad things if I used it too much (So I just decided not to grab the shield) and I think some kind of item that was good by itself but had a curse on it that made my guns jam. Oh, crap.
Can you believe I got killed by a mimic once? I almost killed it but all it took was one bad dodge roll and it was back to the start all over again in this dungeon of madness. *sigh*

I didn't think unlocking the shortcuts also unlocked items, weapons, player characters, and modes altogether. Hmm, I guess they are worth trying to get after all? Might be tough though, I'll have to hoard my resources and stick with my starting gun, and just hope that I survive to the next floor with enough money and keys to unlock them...

I guess trying to unlock the second floor shortcut sounds like a good starting goal to try to achieve before I really try to delve deep into the gungeon in my next good runs, whenever those are.
Well, I got the first shortcut unlocked... But it didn't seem to do anything. Do I have to take it in order for things to unlock, or should I find the shortcut guy at floor 3 and figure out what he wants there?

Made it to the boss of floor 4 again, the Kill Pillars. They lived up to their name when I got scared and blanked out on using a blank when I got cornered by their spinning bullet fan of doom. Ugh.

t-shirt canon is actually a decent support gun due to it’s knock back. Switch to it for a few shots when enemies are getting to close then switch back to your regular gun.

But the rest I've found in it are actually quite good. It's usually the blue chests that can be hit or miss.
Blue tier chests with guns can be hit or miss blue tier passives are generally good. I think only like 4 or 5 are bad. One is situationally bad depending on your weapons.

Do note: there are 2 fixed chests every floor and you will almost always get 1 gun and 1 active/passive from each chest.

Very VERY rarely you will get 2 guns from the chests and get a guarantied passive on the boss.
(Several hundred runs and hours 2 rainbow chest and a glitch chest later and I’ve only had this happen once.)

I think I've already seen sir junks alot after breaking a few chests, it's kinda cute that you get a walking companion made of all the trash you collect from trying to open chests without a key.

Junken is a run carrying familer but keep in mind. Every chest you junk for junken you lose an oppertunity to get a gun or passive. Also when you unlock junken his spawn rate drops significantly. (He needs to be level 4 and help you kill a boss to be unlocked.)

Once I got him with another piece of trash in my inventory and he was wearing goggles this time and started beating up my enemies while I hid behind cover.

To expand on what I said earlier every time you junk a chest and get junk
Junken levels up.

At 6 junk Junken can blank and revive you if you go down.

At 7 junk almost nothing can stop ser junken aside from your death. But he loses the ability to revive you and blank.

I assumed black chests always had cursed items in them, and they looked that way because they were demonic. Last times I opened them I got a shield that would do bad things if I used it too much (So I just decided not to grab the shield) and I think some kind of item that was good by itself but had a curse on it that made my guns jam.

What items are you talking about?
I recall no such items in black chests.

The only two shield items are the relodestone which absorbs bullets and the green guon stone which occasionally heals you.

There is no S tier item that makes guns jam.

Thogh the S tier chest does have one of the best health items in the game the yellow chamber. 2 free hearts, charms enemies, and all for 2 curse.

Can you believe I got killed by a mimic once? I almost killed it but all it took was one bad dodge roll and it was back to the start all over again in this dungeon of madness. *sigh*

Yeah mimics are annoying at first but once you get use to them they are a blessing. A free item without using a key.

Curse is also good in low amounts due to being a good source of money if you kill the jammed enemies.

Items, weapons, and modes yes. Player characters no.
But it is worth it if only for the Akey.

I guess trying to unlock the second floor shortcut sounds like a good starting goal to try to achieve before I really try to delve deep into the gungeon in my next good runs, whenever those are.

You don’t have to do it all at once.(aside from money and key’s annoyingly.) if you have 3 blanks talk to him. If you have the money and key’s talk to him.

Though a good way to make the money is to go through the oubleet and play pilot.
It’s a pretty tough but worth it.
Pilot lets you horde keys and gives you more a small amount more leeway in buying items.

T-Shirt cannon has pretty good knockback so you can use it in rooms with pits to knock enemies into them instantly killing them.

Getting some curse isn't bad as that increases the chances for ammo drops and also increases the amount of money you get from enemies. Recently I always try to get some curse on me for that, just don't overdo it. I lost one run because I miscalculated and got to 10 curse which summons immortal reaper that keeps following and attacking you.

When you unlock a shortcut talk to Tinker in the breach and I think he gives you item unlock there.

None of the shortcut unlocks gives you a new character directly. It's just that the shortcut for second floor when unlocked will leave a broken television in the elevator shaft. So when you come to floor two and the elevator leaves after you exit it, drop down into the hole to find it. Television is an "active" item that drops when you dodge roll and you can throw it when you use it and it has to be taken all the way to the blacksmith on fifth floor in order to unlock the robot.

It's pain in the ass and I'd suggest doing it later on, because Robot is a character you don't want to play at all until you get VERY good at the game anyway because he only has armor and no health containers making him a character you don't want to get hit with.

Anyway, I think the first thing you should do is just focus on winning the game to boost your confidence. But your first real goal towards making meta progress should be crafting the Bullet That Can Kill The Past. Look it up on the wiki and read up on how to find all the pieces.

Honestly my recommendation would be get as many breach shopkeepers as possible. And frifle and Mauser.

The breach shopkeeps sell great potentually run changing items for the hegmoney credits.
Goopten and Doug sell the best items.
Then Trorc and finally cadence and ox.

All of them sell amazing items but doug and gooptens are the most consistantly good. Trorcs are good but you’ll rarely find them. But he sells the big boy. one of the best active item in the game if you have poison resistance. And is still pretty damn good if you don’t. Just watch that poison puddle it makes.

Frifle and Mauser give you access to the pig. An amazing run changing item that revives you once. It’s also very easy to get if you can consistantly get to floor 2. Just kill the beholster there 3 times.
MaxBedlam Apr 13, 2019 @ 2:16am
Well that's a given really. You find and save those as you play when they spawn.

I bought a lot from Trorc, he has some really good stuff and is my favorite breach merchant. I'm going to be buying more from Doug and Goop now though.

Please do.
Goop and Dougs items are like 90% good. I think only the devolver rounds from doug is terrible.
Interesting that Junken levels up the more junk you get. Junken 6 sounds great.

So, I think I have unlocked a few characters but some of them are creepy and weird. There's... Trorc! I can buy new supplies that he'll randomly have in stock when I meet him. I already have Ox and Cadence, Frifle and the Grey Mauser, Gunsling King and Manservantes, Professor Goopton, Old Red, Cursula, the Vampire, And... Well I can't remember who else I've unlocked but Patches and Mendy have shown up at least twice for me.

I recently saw on another of my runs a strange, uh... Demon head entrance... When I tried to enter, it spat me back out and damaged me. Dude, not cool. I tried a few more times and it ended up killing me because I was too curious. Is there some way to enter that, or is it just a trap?

So, it's okay to get cursed items because it increases your rewards?

The demon head leads to a room with a bunch of shopkeepers that offer a 50% discount, but you need curse or 100 casings to enter. Curse is generally okay to have, as long as you can deal with the stronger enemies. It isn't really good or bad overall, unless you get to the point where a significant portion of enemies are jammed or you reach the threshold to begin encountering Bad Stuff. As long as it never gets too high (only a couple cursed items/purchases from Cursula) you should be okay.
