Active item questions
Active items need to be activated using whatever hotkey to do you any good, all active items are like that? I got a active item called "Fortunes favor", do I activate it and it benefits me for a select amount of time or one room?

So you have two active items via pilot etc. to use both I need to assign hotkeys for next/previous item and use space bar when I want to use the one shown?

Active items sometimes have a bar alongside them. I guess it's some kind of recharge thing. What causes active items to recharge?

1) Yes, all active items that appear in the lower left will need to be activated manually. Most items will stay active for a small window of time (a few to maybe 10 seconds or so) for that room only; if you leave the room, the effect expires early.

2) Yes, exactly. Toggle between them and whichever one is visible is the one that will be used when you activate.

3) Clearing rooms will cause the item to recharge in most cases, though some will recharge automatically with time.

Recharging is Based on your Damage Dealt + Coolness Stat, Which is Hidden.
Every character has a base of 0, Certain Items can boost your Coolness up to 10 max.

So with a Big Damage Weapon, Plus max Coolness stat you can have a Rechargeable Active item work for you multiply times in one Room/fight.

Some active items recharge over time, and there's the main way active items recharge, via, Damage Dealt. There's also One time use Active Items as well.
