However, this just doesn't replace the dodge roll for me, since there's plenty of occasions where I would have been just fine if I had a dodge roll instead of that weird teleport thing. It's not bad enough to kill a run, but it feels like a nerf still.
It's really fun, but it's hard to get used to it...
a nerf is putting things lightly. the bloodied scarf is just bad.
it replaces your dodgeroll with a short range teleport, but in order to teleport you need to be moving towards a direction for a dodge. that wouldn't be a problem if the response of the short teleport wouldn't be so abyssmal. if you dodgeroll, youu press a directional button and the roll button, but the teleport requires you to be moving, which downgrades the mechanic that is only your lifeline throughout all of the game. not to mention that the camera follows you through your teleport instead of steadily panning towards you to keep you in its center, so your perception will also suffer. this means even if you do successfully dodge, you're left open for another hit unless you're a chameleon.
the long distance teleport is way too slow to be used during boss battles. i can think of like 2 patterns it can be usefull against, belonging to the dragun and the wallmonger, but there are eleven bosses in the game against nine of whom you will still be left at a disadvantage.
it is somewhat usefull against mobs, but it doesn't even teleport you through locked gates. yes, i tried it and the game just didn't allow me to teleport through locked gates, the BIGGEST selling point of that item and even if it did the downgraded dodge puts this item as the worst item to diminish key costs.
the skeleton key gives you infinite keys, meaning you can open chests AND gates and all it does is give you three curse, which can only be harmful if you posess an item with 2+ curse, which aren't that common. the master of unlocking is slow, but has the same effect without giving curse. the scarf is comparatively the worst item to improve your key economy, even IF it could.
so to summarize: the scarf replaces your dodgeroll with a worse variant in exchange for a long range teleport which will be next to worthless of an ability, that gives a slight advantage against the wallmonger and the dragun, two out of eleven bosses that you maybe encounter assuming you haven't died until then since both bosses appear in the lategame.
one can talk about ''getting used to it'' as much as one wants, you can get used to anything in the gungeon and if you get used to the bloodied scarf, your successrate it will barely change, morelikely worsen because of the learning. this item should be C Tier at best.
EDIT: fixed a quotation error
Video also features, among other things, a flawless jammed old king + lord of the jammed kill heavily leaning on the bloodied scarf (starting at around 38:25).
Also includes a demonstration of the stupid teleportation invulnerability during the lich fight.
still, this ability comes with huge downsides, which i already discussed in my first post, so my opinion isn't exactly changed.
as for the invulnerability, i have and will keep preaching it: being overpowered is boring. this is just another reason for me to never pick the scarf up as the game turns into a walk in the park until it just stops. you might aswell just get to the victory screen the moment you get stuff like that. items that give you unlimited ammo, invulnerability and so on may be fun for like a nanosecond but don't so much add or enhance the game by using them as simplifying it. more reasons to call the scarf the menstruation-blood-stained toilet paper that is is.
It also helped me cheese the last winchester game I needed for trickshot, this item's utility is great.
