Well, on the other hand, he seems to be more interested in PLAYING with the Gunlinger than in the rewarding feeling of unlocking him. I don't really like teaching how to cheat in games, but in this case I don't see any harm in telling him how to do it (and he seems to have already given up on unlocking it in the "honest" way, anyway).
@BigJuicy, I can teach you a (boring, but effective) way that I know of cheating to unlock the Gunslinger. If you want to know how, I can send you a message explaining you how.
As for unlocking the Gunslinger himself, you say that you are having trouble in bullet hell and have too many jammed enemies spawning? That's all on you building up more curse than you can handle before heading into the hardest floor in the game. Of course, there a A FEW rooms with certain enemies that always spawn jammed, but those rooms aren't as common and. quite frankly, some of the easiest rooms in bullet hell. Play other characters and do runs with the sole goal of getting to bullet hell so you can practice fighting through the many, many different rooms and difficult enemies it throws your way.
It's great to do Rat Runs with because the shell bonus means EZ Rat Key.
The simplest way to cheat EtG is downloading and using a program called "Enter the Gungeon Trainer".
I was like you once, so i know. Trust me.
Once you do so many runs OP you're just gonna be burnt out and not at full potential. I've been trying so hard grinding to complete the Beholster's Shrine, Find a Legit Rainbow Chest, Find a Glitch Chest, getting all six rat keys from Punchout and getting Rubenstein's Monster. I've already gotten the Finished Gun so that's like my Gungeon bucketlist if you will.
I find that after two full 10 floor runs my potential gets weaker and I start making a lot more mistakes. I typically just end up rage quitting because I can typically pull off every master chamber and barely take damage the entire run every time I run the Gungeon but on redundant playthroughs I'll make the biggest noob mistakes ever as time goes on. I also RQ all the time if I take no damage throughout the entire run until I get the mf'in antique shield and take some BS hit removing access to an entire floor which I desperately need to try and complete my Bucketlist (since shrines can spawn in the 2nd secret floor as well as just a whole extra floor of loot).
Trust me I've poured a lot of time in this game and sometimes I pull off some crazy stuff when it comes to dodging seemingly impossible scenarios.
Give it two big tries (or one I guess since trying to unlock slinger is 2 runs). If you don't make it don't beat yourself up over it just reflect on what you could've done better.
EDIT: I can't tell you how many times I've been tempted to mod/cheat out the Punchout section of the fight with the Resourceful Rat. So many times I ace the boss only to suffer through some archaic copy pasta fighting game from some bygone era and never have beaten the final phase of the Punchout. Yet still I persist in suffering the Punchout after every failed attempt.
