Poll: Easiest way to beat EtG first time?
I'm noob, but planning to finally beat EtG in future. I am capable of reach chamber 5, but then everytime something stupid happens like a trap room, run out of hearts or that invincible miniboss giant hammer i have no clue how to kill xD

There are 3 options i believe to beat it first time:
  • Solo with probably big luck of giant gun drop ( black chest? ) + many heart containers?
  • Splitscreen with local awesome veteran / buddy
  • Steam Remote play <-- this probably impossible, because of terrible lag / pixelated mess for player #2

I got the slight feeling that actually playing EtG in coop mode, no matter if local couch mode or remote play is actually super hardcore mode, i tried maybe 15 times to play it in coop and every time it is kinda disaster. Many people dying, you don't get guns cause ally always rezed with chest drop = :gameover:

So basically only 1 option left like in Boi? Grind seed maps until you get super lucky find that broken black chest with killer bazooka and finally kill dragun?

I think the Boi approach with effectivelly endless heart containers seems impossible, since EtG only has 5 floors and only very rare shop keeper, so hoarding life is hard? Only big gun offence is the successful run?

So far i entered maybe chamber 5 about 4 times? I think? But every time there are stupid traps or omg moments >:C Even when i have the cool blaster rifles etc

Tell me your first win storys! :dsfight:

1. you can't kill the hammers, just dodge any projectiles they make while clearing the room, they stop when the room clears

2. try exploring before doing trap rooms, sometimes there's a way to go around them

out of your options, the solo is probably the best choice, in co-op mode all enemies have bonus health and managing loot can get a bit annoying.

Thanks for the nice reply! It is just hard to reach chamber #5 and like die 3 rooms into it. I wish there was a training or test mode where you can just start chamber #5 and try out all those crazy trap rooms. Because i feel playing chamber #1 or #2 prepares you nothing to beat chamber #5 obstacles :c

if you fall down elevator shafts at the beginning of floors, you can make shortcuts by talking to the npc there

Welp, i don't have many tips other than keep practising, explore the whole map and remember to use your blanks in the bossfight. Resetting like in boi doesn't work as well since it takes a long time to explore the map, but aim to get atleast a green chest gun and you should have a relatively easier time. Also restart if you don't get floor1 master chamber, since the bosses are easy and the extra hp is totally worth it.

all are equal

^^
obviously they are not equal, hence why i made this poll. Please give nice feedback with "stories"

That reply was kinda spam ...

They can't be equal since steams remote together play is still very laggy and not very fleshed out for EtG. It might be fun, but player #2 dies alot and most times has to play as ghost cause input lag / bad optimization :c

And even, if you play locally (perfect input / no lag) with a buddy, success greatly depends if he / she knows the game / is veteran or / is big gun lucky (black chest)

another tip: try rainbow mode if you feel like the chest rng is annoying. it lets you have one item per floor but it's an Stier item from a rainbow chest at the start of the floor. 8 items drop and you have to pick one of them. this can be extremely easy if you get the right drops, and is easier to grind for a good gun since the chest is right at the beginning. as well as this, secret floors are easier to access since you aren't using your money and keys, and you get rainbow chests for the secret floors too. of course, you can unlock things in this challenge mode, which will make normal runs slightly easier since many of the good guns are locked behind beating the dragun.

you have to beat the dragun to unlock rainbow mode

One of the easiest characters to beat the gungeon with is the Hunter, since the crossbow makes short work of most enemies on the earlier floors and the dog can dig up health, armor and keys.

Try to get health increasing passive items like Heart Lockets and stock up on guns. You can toss less useful guns and items (yes, even passive items like junk by using the map menu) to the Sell Creep under the grating for extra casings.

Try to conserve your health and armor by shooting from behind cover like tables and walls inside the room.

If you're low on health, bust some less valuable chests for pickups (Ring of Chest Vampirism instantly gives health from breaking chests, you should invest in that).

If you find a Medkit or a similiar healing item, take it with you, it can really save you from a pinch.

Make every shot count, since some of the stronger weapons have very small ammo pools.

There, some tips for ya, hope you enjoy :2019smile:

Thx, yes i agree hunter is very nice for trade & starting. I can get consistently to chamber 5 now. But my problem is in chamber5 i always run out of health, because stupid trap rooms or invincible hammers and crazy stuff. So hunter basically helps nothing there, since the bowgun i already sold and the hamster simply RNG dig is much much too rare and not giving consistent health.

I wish this game had some vampiric aura or something where u can leech life 2-3 rooms.
For example i never found or even saw item called "rign of chest vampirism", but thanks for tip i will try look out for it, is it very rare to find?

Well, if you can find a blood shrine, you can get health absorbing at the cost of one heart container (meaning you'll have less health). Some enemies will now glow red and standing near them damages them and absorbs some of their health. Keep at it, and you'll regain your health in no time.
Alternatively you can try unlocking the Blood Brooch, which heals you after you deal a certain amount of damage. You can unlock it by finding a secret floor called "Abbey of The True Gun", which is a bit of a pain in the ass to get to, but I'm sure you can do it!

Also, about the Ring of Chest Vampirism: I checked on the game's wiki page (pretty nifty site, has all the info you'd need, just search it up on Google), and it says it's a C-tier item, which means it could be found in blue chests. It can also be sold by the NPC named Flynt for 1 key. If you haven't unlocked Flynt, he can be found in a cell in chamber 2.'

Good luck!

My runs are made "easier" by extending the run basicly. Always do the secret levels ( oubliette, the abby, the rat lair) for extra chests and boss loot. My easiest run and the one i got lead god on the first time was by not farming guns. Instead I got Ser Junk the minion, leveled him up by breaking chests for junk, then cloned him with good mimic. I then got the clown mask and the Turtle shell giving me 6 minions of destruction. After that I only used defensive stuff (Guons, runspeed, jetpack, air ballon gun (not having to worry about floor traps, fire and poison puddles, and pits is amazing) to focus on not getting hit. Guons eat all bullets so if you run away from bullets in the direction they travel the guons rotate by and eat just about all. Just dont GET HIT!.
Edit - get the black hole gun and/or the black hole machine active item. They make bosses with bullet hells (like dragun) soooo much easier.

Well those "extra" levels are too hard yet, they like kill me fast and can't even reach chamber#5 lol, when i try enter special levels like oubliette.

Don't think grind 100% all floor is good tip for newcomer, who struggle to reach Dragun at all :C

True, the extra floors are quite hard. All with the exception of the first, the Oubillette. Make sure to do this one every run, and avoid the rest. Maybe do the one directly after it too, because killing its really hard boss gives you normal boss loot + a synergy chest. These chests have high potential, so it seems worth. It is much harder than oubillette so i don't recommend it as much though
