The Medusa Fight
There are certain points in the Medusa fight where I can't attack even though I push the fire button. Is this a bug, or does Medus have an attack that prevents you from attacking?

The Gorgun does have the ability to turn your trigger finger to stone. When her eyes glow (I think the color is purple) and she sends out a clear wave of sorts, thats the attack. Just dodge roll over it and you'll be fine. You can tell when you are petrified if your character is gray.

It's not a bug. If you pay attention one of her attacks sends out a wave that makes you unable to fire.

I didn't know that (I can't tell when that happens, anyways. Stupid eyesight.).

But even when she's doing the bullet spray attack/circle of bullets I can't attack for a short period even when that doesn't happen.

You can also look away from her when she sends out the petrify wave and you will not be affected.
If you do get petrified remember you can still reload.

The Petrification effect lasts for several seconds, so it's completely possible that Meduzi launches another attack while your attacks are still locked.

Seconded. This is Medusa, after all. Don't look at her when she does it, and the attack has no effect.

Also, has anyone got any tips on dodging the bullet ring attack with the occasional homing bullets?

If you stand far away, it becomes undodgable. Stay close.

What Mushroom3d said. The Meduzi's Scream attack has large gaps close to the boss, but those gaps close the further away you are from her.
