Getting to Rat is a chore
They need to lower the cost of the Gnawed Key its beyond ridiculous, also after doing the hidden directions once it should just become a normal floor you have to complete so i dont have to open the item description menu each time i make it there because i dont want to remember the directions all the time. Its kind of dumb they created a floor where you feel rushed to complete it to get to the rat as there is no time to walk wrong even once from personal experience, instead of giving us a good well developed new floor with the latest and most likely last dlc they gave us a plain boring floor.

Most people buying the game early are most likely burnt out by the game aswell so we just wanna do the Rat area to get the unlocks etc. and beat him. Right now i have to go to the forge and hope i by that point get that "Clone" thing so i can tackle the rat or atleast make it to the punchout part again as he is way too hard on his first 2 phases if going directly from beginning to him, one of the main reasonsbeing the idiotic price of the gnawed key so you cant open chests or actually get any good weapons due to the poor RNG of the game before or after 3rd chamber. The game gives the green/blue chests way too often compared to Red/Black ones.

Getting to the rat should either be changed or not cost blanks and a regular key or something, right now the system to get to him is a chore and you cant spend an y money at all as you most likely have 25-50 by first floor and have to get the rest up to 115 by the next one.

I do agree on : "Do the hidden direction once, then become a normal floor." I have a bad memory so it's kinda annoying to check the ammonicon often.

And the price is fine. Just go to the oubliette.

And of course, the red / black chest are rarer... Do you want a legendary weapon/rainbow chest every run, too?

If you really want to fight him more easily, with more money and item, do this :

-Play as pilot.
-Unlock the path to the oubliette, but use your trusty lockpick for one of the lock. If it fail, restart the run.
-Always buy a key on the first floor, since it cost barely anything.
-Full clear the first, secret, and second floor.
-Never open brown, always use trusty lockpick on them.

You should have around 120 to 170 depending on your luck before you buy the key.

It may seem like a chore, but really, if you want to have it easier against the rat, you have to.

Even if i was to play the marine or huntress, just going to the oubliette is enough to get enough money, but i'll have less money and one or lesser item.

Getting the Oubliette is very dependant on specific things though like for the rat thats why i never did the area more than 2-3 times on top of beating it atleast a update or 2 back, which is unfortunate as i liked the floor and the cute blob boss.

However the gungeon wiki mentions this :

"A water barrel will always spawn somewhere on the floor, and can be rolled to the fireplace room."

"After reaching the Oubliette at least once, a water barrel will always appear in the fireplace room."

I dont see any water barrel in my game for this room is it because i beat him so long ago before any new patches/updates that i dont have it ? so it looks like i need the super soaker thing/water guns for this area again ?

"specific thing"? You just need to make sure the ennemies don't shoot the water barrel, and buy the key of the first floor.

It can spawn in this room, or a room adjacent to it. It always do.

I've gotten used to the routine of getting to the rat, beating him and enjoying the extra items. He isn't incredibly hard if you've lived with it a little. Scrounging up money isn't a big problem when the Oubliette gives extra cash, or choosing to do a cursed run through the hero statue. It's basically a harder version of the Abbey where you need to jump through hoops to get to it. There's a slight expectation of having done all the optional floors in a run up until the rat.

Thanks i managed to find a barrel on my 5th or so attempt near the main elevator and go through oubliette and Abbey i was kind of remembering one of these areas to skip one of the other main levels for some reason since i havent done them for so long so i thought it would just be the same amount of items/lvls up to the rat, but i did manage to get up to the 3rd phase again with this attempt although my only good weapon was that letter/talking weapon with some kind of item combo which made the first 2 phases a very long fight.

Now, I haven't gotten to the Rat's Lair yet, but I looked up this thing because I wanted to know.
You can pay the 1000 over the course of various lives. For example, you pay 50, die, and you'll find the price is now 950. Once you pay the entirety of 1000 over multiple tries, the key spawns as 115, which is about the price of a good gun at deeper floors.
Honestly, considering how brutal this game is with paying, such as the elevator guy, I'll take this.

No, that's the point; 115 is really high.

By the time your in a position to do rat runs 115 is n0t high.

Sure, but it's a real pain the first few times you try to get there. I got over it, but it probably turned a lot of people away from the game.

The problem is doing the ~6-8 runs to get the 1000 to begin with.

I'm at a point where I succeed at 8-floor clears more often than not. So now I'm put in a situation where I'm supposed to farm Floor 1, Floor 1-2, find a shop...and just quit, untill I sink 1000? That's several hours of boredom I'd rather pass on.

It should not take hours to do that. I don't even know if that would take an hour period, but I don't really keep track of time when I play.
If you really want to get the cost of the key out of the way with as few runs as possible, you could touch that statue at the begining and get cursed. Going through Oubliette would probably help too.

Its quicker to skip Floor 1-2, so you don't sometimes have to buy a Key. I'm using Pilot, since he can sometimes sell the free loot he gets.

I'd say ~100-150g per run (skipping 1-2) is normal, and it takes around 10-15m. So yes, if I grind at it, its about 1.5-2 hours of a grind. But this is literally me quitting each time I finish the second floor, so its boring and unengaging.
