I set shooting to right trigger, active item use to right Button, Dodge Roll to left button, and Blanks to the Y Button. All other settings are default I believe.
Then again, I've never really tried to play with a keyboard and mouse. It would probably lead to higher accuracy and such, but I value comfort over survivability.
+ allows for more comfort when playing.
+ fluent camera motion.
- has autoaim, which disables your ability for precision aiming. this makes the game slightly harder because you need to focus more on dodging rather than shooting, but you can still beat the game, its just a different learning curve.
keyboard and mouse:
+ allows you to pick out individual targets depending on their threatlevel to you, environmental hazards such as explosive barrels or chandaliers for quicker kills, aswell as dynamite and grenade kins, and makes aiming alot easer during the winchester games.
- aiming and dodging has both to be learned (its not that hard since you don't have to land precision shots, but you still need to aim and make those bullets hit the enemy by yourself)
- doesn't have the advantages the controller gives.
regardless of what input method you choose, the game can still be beaten in both ways. neither option is exactly easier then the other.
the changes in gameplay:
kb+m allows you to quicker kill targets in a situation where being able to pick out individual enemies is an advantage, causing enemies to die quicker, which means you're exposed less to enemy fire, which increases your self preservation.
the controller doesn't have that option ,which causes you to exercise your dodging skills even harder, but without aiming being something you need to pay alot of attention too, as aiming your joystick into the direction of the enemy, rather then the enemy himself, is enough.
in theory, kb+m is alot better then the controller, but in practice it really doesn't matter. you can get through the gungeon with the controller and that's enough of an argument to just simply say: choose whatever you want.
it does change up the game, but it's barely noticeable, because people usually stick to one input method throughout their entire playthrough.
You were first result
Controller is way easier since aim assist at max setting can do most of the work for you.
You don't need to aim and just dodge bullets, i'd actually recommend this one for beginners and once you get better you just turn it down or switch back to keyboard/mouse if you prefer.
Edit: If you had troubles using one, just tell whats wrong and people can help you?
There are some rare weapons which don't work correctly, but those are very few.
