(spoilers) what does the ring do?

The rat ring says that it makes me immune to poison and allows to cheat death.
But it doesn't do either of them.
What's up with that thing

I'm preeeetty sure it does help you survive death. It was gone after my near death experience with Advanced Dragun . He was hitting me while I was on 1 health several time in a short succession and it did not kill me.

I can pretty reliably do rat now. Advanced dragun took out the rat ring, an orange I was saving for the fight on purpose, and took me down to 1 health before I killed him. And I barely had ammo left at the end. It's definitely harder.

the advanced dragun is insanley difficult, mosty because it's bullet sponge and most of its attacks are bullet hells in and of themeselves.

so I guess he's harder? Damn, if that's necessary to kill rat before then I'm screwed, the farthest I got was that boxing part and I died at the 2nd half

you dont have to kill the rat, you can acess the fight by having the weird egg item and droping it into flames. like the braziers in floor 4-5 knock one over, throw the egg into the fire and it will hatch into the serpent. then feed it and continue to the end as normal.

it works? well, I don't think getting this item happens very often, and I completely suck at that box minigame
