Metronome
Honestly, this item is bad. Which is really sad since it's effect is good.
But really, it's almost impossible to properly use it's power.

Losing all (not just some, all) of it's built up power in a single hit is bad enough (this is gungeon, you are going to get hit), but to ALSO lose all of it on weapon switch is to much. Especially since you need to switch guns quite regularly and there isn't really a way around that, especially on boss fights.

It's such a damn shame becaus it's a cool item, which makes it feel even worse whenever I loot it and think "well, that's basically a key wasted".
The only time I was able to make effective use of it was when I had a hyperlight blaster and chaos bullets, but ofc that got ruined once I walked into a tiny room with 3 ashen bulletkins, an executioner and a revolvenant and no cover.

Honestly it's not a bad item. It gives good clearing power if you can avoid being hit. and "this is gungeon" would apply more to not being hit, as unlike other bullet hell rouge lites like isaac, gungeon is more about not being hit as you have much less health and health drops are not as common.

of course you will lose the bonus if at the boss, and later on if you are not good enough to keep up with not being hit, but for the first one or two chambers its a great item, only going down on usefulness when gotten later on.

And that exactly is a problem. It gets less and less useful the further you get, and the rooms it's most useful in you REALLY shouldn't need it to clear.
Also I said how the "lose on switch" is a major issue, something you completely neglected to even adress.

In thoery if someone can avoid being hit on a regular basis, the metrome would provide use even in the forge, even if this benefit is smaller then it was on previous floors.
more damage > same damage

as for switching, i did adress it. unless you run out of ammo there is no reason to switch guns while clearing out the floor. Only on bosses would you want to switch. however if you are particullary good at using your character's starting weapon, like the bullet's for example. there is no reason to ever switch.

also on blessed runs, once again if you can avoid being hit on a regular basis, it makes the run a lot easier as the switching does not get rid of the benefit

I get your frustration, and I agree with you. It is not a particularly good item, in terms of
min-maxing the effectiveness of the item; switching guns removing damage bonus in particular.
(all the work of not getting hit and not switching, then you just get hit by some stray bullet or no more ammo, oh well...?)

But I think it is one of those items that you do not need to worry about if you have good weapons, or good item synergies. And it's only worth worrying about when it's a slow rolling game.

And at this point, of over 100+ hrs of the game,I just treat it as a bonus, an incentive to not switch weapons regularly and not get hit. You can make it work for 50% of the floor, 75-100% if you are lucky. But it's a fun one, when you get it going with Ammo Synthesizer and/or Blue Bandana item. Just absolutely steam-roll through everything.

Oh hey, it's metronome. Better not get hit and switch to a gun that has

Usually just assigning a good enough room clearer for the metronome and saving A-S tier weapons for the boss. (depends on your strategy)

it's an item that lets you abuse sources of ammo for unrightfully earned damage
alternatively use sometthing with infinite ammo, it's broken

Metronome is actually completely busted with the bullet assuming you can keep the buff.
Syro System Mar 13, 2018 @ 2:27pm
Which is kinda sort of the entire topic of this thread, the fact that you don't get to keep the buff in the vast majority of situations.

situations you get to keep it:
not being hit
not switching weapons

situations you dont get to keep it
being hit
switching weapons.

idk seems pretty 50/50 to me

Which is kinda sort of the entire point of my post, the fact that the Bullet makes it easy to keep the buff and therefore is a very powerful item on him.

Personally I don't know if the item has the potential to be good, but it's so opposed to my preferred playstyle that I usually just ignore the fact that I have it.

The only good use I've gotten out of the metronome is in the first half of the game, by abusing one of its quirks: if you pick up a weapon you can switch guns without losing the bonus. Which means if you clear the floor with your starter weapon without getting hit, but don't open the chests or buy a gun from a shop until right before the boss, you'll have a massive bonus vs the boss. I've only ever done this with the robot since his gun is way better than the other characters' pistols.

Nah the item is wicked sick all you need to is to "git gud" by either selecting a weapon that has a lot of ammo so you don't quickly run out and have to switch and kill the "Bonus" or the bullet's starter blasphemy weapon that works perfectly...the rest is just ...avoid bullets which is literally the purpose of this game.
GOD I made the "Rad" Gun so op using this lol
