You're kidding right? It does maximum boss DPS all the way up until the Dragun. It's not all purpose but against certain bosses this gun is almost as good as it gets. You couple this with something like Rare Sweet, Jetpack, or even Bionic Leg and you're pretty well set to handle 50% of the bosses in the game with just two items.
Most of your objections seem to be about personal style, not actual quality of the weapons. Which is totally fine, and actually I think reinforces the idea that players should be able to know quality and decide for themselves.
Also, arguing that a lower-tier item is roughly equal or slightly better doesn't make that high-tier item bad. What you find is up to luck in general, and you are rarely gonna find Potion of Lead Skin and Relodestone in the same run. Plus I'd still take Relodestone given that choice. But the developers deliberately put some good items in low tier and some bad items in high tier. It raises the stakes, and makes every choice a bit of a gamble, which is part of the RNG elements of the genre.
I mean, the C-tier The Scrambler is flat better than the S-tier Particulator, but I don't see anyone griping when they find Particulator because that gun is still super strong.
I gripe when I get particulator in a rainbow run. Its gotta be pretty early in a run or a very weak run when I want Particulator to be my main. Can't say I've ever compared the two before now though. But yeah, scrambler is one of those, its gonna be an easy run, guns
And I rather get some decent synergies than most S tier weapons. Items with higher rarity are pretty decent, weapons? most are horrible.
And once again: if you did not open the wiki about magnificence ... you would not know about A and S tier weapon drop chance REDUCTION if you decide to pick up some item or gun with said rank, while also not even knowing the rank of the item or weapon, because it's only "halfway" possible to be known, if you knew that certain items sell for higher prices, while also knowing what the floor multiplicator for the price tag of items is.
There are just 4 important factors unknown to the player, I just named about a single stat, which is just IMPOSSIBLE for ANY player to find out, if they don't take like 200+ hours to figure everything out.
Particulator is amazing against bosses which can go invincible during certain attacks, as the particulator projectiles flow around the location an boss is going to spawn back to (or just chase the boss once he appears), making you deal TONS of dammage at once, literally saving you time and maybe frustration.
edit: it's 10 times 7 damage projectiles, so 70 dmg from those alone, the explosion deals 30 dmg btw, so 100 whopping damage? sign me up.
Really this is what it almost always comes down to. You only need one gun and one active, really. If you're using more than ~2 guns on a single boss you probably just have only gotten garbage so far. It's usually not even close for a comparison either. Suppose I've already got a railgun, gunther, gunbow, or unicorn horn or something of the sort, would I rather get another one or platinum bullets, magic sweet, duct tape, etc.? No question.
I wonder if this is something that would be really, really easy to just mod in quickly. Or if it's even already been done...
Basically being punished for picking a cosmetic difference.
Might not be, but This morning I started a paradox run with carrot sword and junkan. So I trashed every chest until a green one on the sewer, where I hoped to get something good.
I got the non-carrot version of my sword....
