Why are those items classified as "S" tier?

R2G2, baby good shelleton and owl. I have never had any success with the first two, damage output is most problematic, plus way they shoot (shooting at walls, which is between them and enemies), I honestly think that clown mask companion which is B tier is much better. at least it can one shot bulletkin. Owl is also kind of meh but at least if you combine it with ammolets it will be somewhat useful but still not S tier worth. So how are all this item ranked as "S"? Am I missing something? do they have hidden potential? Because whenever I compare them to other S tier items they don't even come close.

i'm going to repeat something that is repeated frequently on the EtG discord.
rarity =/= how good it is. the rarities are for things to be RARER, not BETTER

As already stated, rarer doesn’t mean better. Although those particular S-tier items are actually pretty good. R2G2 and Baby Good Shelleton do quite a bit of DPS, and in particular help you kill bosses faster. Owl is great for its defensive abilities. Unlike the Clown Mask blanking pet, Owl can also body-block shots. It also blanks more often, and occasionally shoots (though rarely).

The truly awful S-tier item is STRAFE® Gun. Terrible weapon.

Actually it’s not that bad.
Not S-tier worthy but certaintlh not terrible. 9 damage per shot with high fire rate + scatter shot for extra spread and the ability to do of 25.5 damage (assuming it isn’t rounded up.) means it can be pretty good for room sweeping.
