On the other hand, if you are beginner, Oubliette wil crush you. Some enemies will seem to always hit you and lack of keys will make Oubliette even harder.
If there is one thing, that I wanna say to anyone who wants beat Oubliette, play the Bullet.
That's the secret to Oubliette. Bullet. Blasphemy makes you less dependent on chests drops, which makes you less dependent on keys, which makes you able to collect those two keys required to go to Oubliette.
and what are the benefits of visiting abbey ? some more chests and more credits?!
hm yeah but is it really that good ? u get a few more chests yes but on the other hand u also have to invest ammo and maybe life. and u wont get a permanent advantage like an extra heart.
Abbey - if you've already beaten it (for the unlock) most of the time no.
The chests etc are nice, but the Old King will be too expensive (in terms of lost hearts/ammo) to come out of it on the plus-side. And sometimes abbey will be your last stop, because Old King kills you.
Going to the Oubliette / Abbey means 5 chests more + 2 bosses drops, without counting that you could get other chest spawns in rooms. Of course Oubliette is hard and Abbey one of the toughest levels in the game, but as always is a matter of practice. Most of your runs you will get a huge improvement on your equipment.
The biggest counterpart is learning to deal with the Old King, but once you have fought it several times its a matter of resistance.
Usually I don't have problems with keys in 90% of my runs. Most times chests on 1st floor doesn't worth it, save your keys to go to Oubliette (you will always end 1st floor with at least 2 keys, the starter and the shop one). Plus you can get that nasty trash in case the almighty Ser Junken appears.
Worst case scenario is both shop and old shield rooms locked in Oubliette, that can happen but it's not common. Usually chests in Oubliette and Old Abbey will be higher tier than 1st floor so I think it's worth it. It's a matter of organizing your run depending if you need more guns or items. Generally I try to not open chests before bosses until I get a boss-smasher gun; then, the next floors I open them before the boss fight in order to have chances to get an item.
I only go to the oubliette when i have at least 3 keys on the first floor(so i start with 1 key in the Oubliette just in case).
Oh, and i can't confirm that chests in the Oubliette are higher tier than on 1st floor.
Most of the time it was brown and blue which spawned for me in the Oubliette.
Of course thats a chance of Ser Junkan, but to fight through Oubliette for 2x5% chance doesn't seem to be worth it. ^^
nobody of u mentioned credits though. i could imagine that could be a reason for oubliette and abbey?
Though I won't deny that it's helpful to go there as long as you can deal with the rooms. It's just not absolutely necessary.
For Abbey it's the same deal, really. It can improve your run but only if you can get through it reliably.
And about credits: I guess you could argue that they are also a plus of going there but who really cares about those? It's not like there's a shortage of them in the gungeon. And once you've unlocked everything you don't really need them anymore at all.
But if you're currently in the mood to farm them, you may want to consider doing the extra floors, yeah.
i almost never have too much credits :D u can buy keys, ammo ,sometimes a heart... and then u have all the other shops where u can often find a good gun etc
the last shop before dragun is also super expensive most of the time.. when i reach it im always out of credits ~
But yeah, getting more money is definitely a big positive of going to the extra floors.
ah yeah i was talking about the normal money.
Agreed. It just makes the run longer, so I tend to avoid the Oubliette or Abbey if I'm not playing as the bullet and/or I don't have a great surplus of keys in the first floor.
After all after 150 hours, every achievement done, everything unlocked and 600 worthless Hegemony credits in store I only play for fun or hope of getting another Rainbow Chest eventually and I usually want to keep my runs as short as possible. After 150 hours of experience you kind of win reliably with almost any type of gear, so yeah not exactly necessary to go to the secret floors, only if you want to add extra spice to the typical run.
im at 130 hours and i didnt kill the lich yet .. :D still have to do a lot..
also didnt kill the past of a character yet
i give myself a lot of time though
still busy training my dodge skills , so i can regulary get the extra hearts^^
