Random black chest during a Wallmonger fight

I have no clue what happened there. I died, mostly because it was Wallmonger (hate that boss), but maybe I would've survived for longer, because a random black chest suddenly spawned. Unlocked, like literally out of nowhere. It confused me a lot, and I stopped paying too much attention, and it didn't end well for me. These are the items I had, anyone knows what caused that chest spawn?

Must be a bug? You didn't have any items that would have spawned a chest randomly.

Btw, try to look for dousing items (like the water gun, or the sponge) they're pretty useful for that flame-in-the-middle attack.

Maybe a bug... I have no clue. Or maybe it was because I used the shrine that takes away 1 heart and gives damage bonus? I looked it up, but it doesn't seem like it can spawn a chest.

I think I haven't unlocked Sponge yet. Huh, now I see Mega Douser can be useful. Thanks for the tip

Pit where you using directional pad?
If so that is the cause because I got it once and when it ran out of ammo it dropped a black checked unlocked

By any chance, did you fully unload the D-pad (4-directional gun) during the battle?

And do you know if the chest was locked or not?

Oh. the D-Pad... It does that? I have no idea about that item (Barely played since this item's update), but that might be a cause.

Yeah, it does that: it spawns a chest once you deplete its ammo.

That, as well asthe built-in grappling hook and Megahand-power shot, by doingleft-left and down-right before firing, respectively,makes it arguably one of the most flexible items in the game.

Oh, I forgot about that feature. Yeah, I used D-Pad, because I could hit him twice as much by firing diagonally. I maybe ran out of ammo, I didn't notice because the chest appeared and I stopped paying attention, but I was low on ammo before the fight.

Oh, I noticed a grappling hook, in one room I was about to get hit but suddenly the grappling hook procked, it confused me, now I see, that's really interesting.
