Lost all my save data...help?
I was about to Livestream Gungeon today and when I loaded up my game, it started in the breach completely empty just like how the game first starts. And I soon realised that all my save data was gone. I checked the other save slots, still nothing. I still have my achievements on steam, bit that's it. Is there any way to get my data back? I emailed the email steam gave me to talk to Dodgeroll, but idk when they'll reply.....Any ideas?

You can have my 100% save if you like.

Sorry to hear this... hopefully we can locate them. First, could you check your Gameplay options menu to make sure your save slot hasn't changed somehow? The default is Slot A.

If that isn't it, see if you can find the save directory. They should be located here:

Windows: %USERPROFILE%/AppData/LocalLow/Dodge Roll/Enter the Gungeon
OSX: ~/Library/Application Support/Dodge Roll/Enter the Gungeon
Linux: ~/.config/unity3d/Dodge Roll/Enter the Gungeon

There were some old bugs that caused files to be saved in other locations in some very uncommon circumstances, but I believe those have all been sorted out for some time now. Just in case, please also try searching your hard drive for a file called "SlotA.save" and see if they're located somewhere else.

im quite new to pc gaming and such so im no expert on this subject. i looked and found the files outside of a "Unity" folder. should i drag the save file files into the unity folder? if not, then it's still there...

that's very kind, but how would you give it to me?

No, that's where they belong. Those are likely your new (blank) saves; I was hoping you'd find a second set elsewhere. Are there backups in that folder (that look like "SlotA.backup.10h30m"?). If so, you could replace SlotA.save with one of the backups and it will hopefully restore your save. Note that if you have steam cloud enabled, Steam will try to overwrite this file with copies from the Steam servers when the game is started, so you'll need to disable cloud sync.

i looked back and saw files that read "SlotA.backup79h18m" there are two others for 78h and 77h. do i do anything with them? and how do i disable cloud sync?
(sorry if i sound dumb, files arent my strongsuit haha)

Yes, I'd go ahead and delete the main save ("SlotA.save"), then copy the most recent backup (79h 18m), paste it again in that directory, and rename the new copy to just "SlotA.save".

To disable cloud sync, right click the game in Steam, go to the Updates tab, and uncheck "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization" at the bottom.

Please let me know if this helps!

EDIT: Do you have a "SlotA.save.corrupt" in that directory as well?

I disabled cloud sync and im just about to do what you told me with the slotA files. but before I do, i do not have a "SlotA.save.Corrupt". Is that important?

EDIT: i did it and it worked, thank you SO MUCH!!!!

No, not important, but it could have explained why your save file just disappeared. Sorry for the trouble!

Hey I just had this similar problem here due to playing offline, and accidently selecting "download to machine" during Steam Cloud Sychronization. That caused my game to download data from before I played some days offline!

Just wanted to revive this to say thank you for the tips here!

Hello beautiful Gungeon loving people. I am posting this here because many of the other threads have been locked and I feel the steam and reddit communities are more technically sophisticated than some of the xbox support threads.

Just wanted to report that there are still bugs with the V2.0.11 port to Xbox One S saving progress as well as the Play Anywhere sync using Microsoft Live game save/sync. If you are considering buying the game on steam or xbox live, I would suggest steam because it is straightforward to backup and restore your save files on PC but at this time not possible on Xbox.

Trying to troubleshoot this problem has left me with more questions than answers.

50% of the time boot up the xbox one to play S my progress from the previous day will be lost.

At the end of a strong run with unlocks I will return to the breach, spend some H credits, exit to the main title screen, then shut down the console.

It is unclear exactly when the game engine writes the local save to disk as well as when the Microsoft sync daemon compares the local save to the cloud. I have resorted to running the console 24/7 to avoid losing progress.

I also tested the play anywhere feature to open my save on PC a few months ago but the experience was even more frightening. 50% of the time when loading the game on console after playing on PC the console would load to a completely blank empty save with 0% progress.

This is all experience using a fresh xbox 2.0.11 install. Devolver has announced they are now working on what will most likely be the final large update that will be pushed to consoles.
