Secret Walls - Question
Its of course common knowledge that using a blank will reveal secret rooms and I've no problem with that.

The thing is I hear/read that normal bullets (bar the starting gun) can reveal secret walls if you shoot them.

Is this true? Cause if it is, I'll start doing it in future runs. Otherwise I'd obviously prefer not to waste any ammo.

Using (non-starter) guns will crack walls if there is a secret room behind them. Also I'm quite sure if you have a shield and an enemy pops it, it'll reveal the room as if it was a blank.

Ah, they'll create a crack, will they? Meaning you still have to use a blank?

And by shield, you mean armor piece? Yeah I've had that happen a few times.

I'm pretty sure that you cannot 'open' a secret room by shooting the cracked walls. Pretty sure the only means is the blank effect.

Only a few guns can open secret doors. They can almost all reveal them though

Yeah I assumed that as well, but I've seen around the place mention of people shooting walls.

It would be nice if someone can clarify if shooting creates a crack, but doesn't open the secret wall.

I've seen cracks before, like on the 3rd chamber. Did I shoot it by mistake or were the cracks already there to add to the theme of the level (it is a 'mine', after all)?

Again, I know blanks work. I'm just wondering if there's a pre requisite to seeing cracks, so I know where to use a blank.

Hmm, I don't recall the cracks being there before shooting the wall, ever.

The RPG and a few explosive guns can open them. Normal guns will only reveal where they are

Fair enough. I've seen cracks myself, but it's always been after I clear a room and have no way to tell if it was like that before.

Like, I've never shot a wall and immediately seen a crack appear afterwards.

You never shoot walls? That's how I've found all secret rooms, so far. I mostly play Huntress, and every time I'm in a chest room, I shoot each wall once with the crossbow, if the minimap indicates that there is space for a room. And if I have a leftover blank after clearing the boss, I use it in the shop, the secret is sometimes there, too.

Nope, I never shoot walls. I never had a reason to, until now.

Some room layouts give a hint as to there being a secret room, especially in the shop.

I wanted to unlock Lies and was thinking how I'd find that secret room with the chest and the dude who asks you a question.

I already did it, so no I've no immediate need to go blasting walls. But it got me thinking if there was a particular mechanic I missed.

Which I now know I had. :)

I see that the secret walls have different textures. But only other textures can be seen at the top of the room. Wierd.:steammocking:

Well, the secret room usually holds a heart, blank, keys and sometimes chests, so I see no reason not to look for them. :) I once found a special secret room, something about a guy leaving everything in his will to those who found it, if I remember correctly. The room had two mimics and a normal chest, all three blue, which was a nice find.

Yeah I found that before and I only had 1 key and there was a fuse on each chest.

I've found plenty of secret rooms by mistake in my playthroughs and am fully aware of what they might have. Just that the cracks in the wall aspect, I wasn't sure of. :)
