Purchase armor whenever you see it, even if you think you have enough. Look out for Gunknight Armor, Ammo Synthesizer and Nanomachines.
Make extra effort to find secrets, since they're another location you can reliably find armor. Shoot chest rooms and the next stage's elevator room for cracks since they're the most likely places.
Its effect on water-based weapons is the one real advantage the robot has. The Siren, which in another scenario a mediocre weapon, could be your best friend here.
Hardly a spoiler these days especially when they're both featured on the Steam store page banner.
Only thing you can do is try to not get hit that often and pray to the gungeon gods to get some really good chests/drops.
But it'll take time.
Obviously you should always be buying armor if you have the spare cash, but it might be worthwhile to prioritize defensive buffs instead, such as the Armor Synthesizer or a Guon Stone.
Finally just don't give in, but make sure you take breaks if it's frustrating you too much.
I'm no expert though (only just managed it myself) so you can take my advice with a grain of salt if you want.
You can try, but if the weapons are bad, you can again try it from the beginning in chamber one.
Good, now i just have to wait for the Dlc. :D
Back to the topic, the only thing that can be done with Robot has been said: try to flawless all bosses, look for secret rooms and always buy armor. I would add that I find recommendable to avoid the Oubliette with Robot, as it can be hard if you're not prepared and can be a gamble if you don't get good items. With other characters I use to explore the entire floor; with Robot I think it's better to focus on the chests and go for the boss. Don't waste your energy exploring the entire floor, as every room can be a step closer to death. This is specially recommended on 5th floor: I wouldn't even look for the chests, go for the bullet and straight to the boss.
Because of this, orientation items as maps and compass are really useful.
Really helped to get the Items from the secret rooms.
Also, compressed air tank is a beast for robot
