My issue, is the right stick doesnt work in MW2.. its not a steam game. is it Steam stuffing this up somehow? I actually close steam app no difference. Running Windows 11.. please help...
I thought i was onto something with this thread. but maybe need someone way better then me with all this stuff to sort out.. Steam doesnt have any 3rd party options under controller.
This is my thread from six years ago, but there’s so much basic comprehension missing from this comment that I had to reply and hopefully help.
First, reading is fundamental. Context matters. Notice your surroundings.
That’s all to say, if you look around, you’ll see that this was a discussion post I made in 2017 regarding controller support for Enter the Gungeon, Steam version.
Second, the steam app doesn’t “do” anything to your system or games on other launchers. The most obtrusive parts, Steam kernel and steam overlay, run in the background and in-game, respectively.
Third, Steam options regarding controller support only pertain to games played via steam, which are all installed in steam’s library folder.
Fourth, understand where you are playing MW2 from. Historically, MW2 was a game only available on consoles and on PCs through Activision’s launcher. Then Activision games joined Blizzard games on battle.net’s launcher. At the same time, MW2 was purchasable and playable through Steam. Figure out which one you are doing.
Fifth, your game should be seeing your controller regardless. IF using the steam version of the game, all steam would do is handle how to interpret your controller (native xinput support, etc.), but the game itself should still see that you have a controller. If it’s not, confirm your controller works in general. Then check settings in game to see if a controller is available in game options. Third, then start worrying about whether Steam’s controller support is configured incorrectly for this game.
Lastly, bear in mind, there are tens of millions of Steam players, millions playing at any given moment. If my thread was the only one remotely helpful, it might be fair to consider it an issue with your setup; that is to say, if the most popular game (MW2) in Activision’s most popular franchise (Call of Duty) was having problems with controllers, EVERYONE would’ve been talking about it.
Hopefully, one thing here helped.
I tried this and it didnt work for me , my issue is that the up and down works, but if i move the analog stick left and rigth, nothing works.
