Can you not die?
I made it past chamber 1 and killed the bird guy but then I died in chamber 2. After I died I had to go back to chamber 1? If I want to beat the game do i have to not die the entire time?

Yup. Each run starts as a blank slate.

The good news is, you managed to beat the hardest first floor boss on your first run, so nice job. If you manage to beat a boss without being hit by it, you get an extra heart container. The less you get hit in individual rooms, the more likely you are to get heart/ammo/key drops. If you die, it's game over.

Alright sounds good. I thought I was doing something wrong. I did get some sort of crystal gun that shoots really fast after I killed the bird for the second time called the onmichrome

Nah, you're good. That's a pretty good gun. Quality of items are dependent on the chest's color, if you didn't know, so if you're running low on keys, prioritize the rarer-colored chests. Also, as you keep playing and defeating bosses, you're always working toward unlocking new guns and equipment, so when you die, it's never a total waste.

Best of luck man, this game is hard and it only gets harder.

Eventually you do get to have a "Checkpoint", but honestly its alot better to just treat each run as its own run, since the "Checkpoints" lack the vital benefits you get from doing things correctly.

As you go you will unlock more guns and items that will make the runs easier (sometimes). However you need a pretty good base skill to get past lvl 3. I can't do it every time. But you also naturally get better over time. It's a really good challenge level but the game is really cheap with the unlocks IMO

To further clarify on previous answers, the reason why the game resets when you die is because of the genre it is in: roguelike. Roguelike games are not about winning but about losing, and as such they differ greatly from other games. The ultimate goal of a roguelike is to make death both very punishing and very exciting at the same time. This is usually done through two systems: permadeath and randomness. Permadeath means that when you die, you lose all your progress on your run (but keep things you have unlocked during it, like rescued NPCs and new guns that can appear in future playthroughs). Randomness is used to make it so that each run is different in at least some aspects. In Enter the Gungeon, runs are differentiated by dungeon layouts, bosses you fight, and the loot you obtain. Randomness is what makes death exciting too, because you want to play again to see what happens next. Some roguelikes, like Enter the Gungeon, also aim to keep playthroughs short (30 minutes to 2 hours), so that you never lose "that" much. Another component that roguelikes have to differentiate them from high score games and such is character progression. Your character gets stronger as you play through a current run.

The whole point of a roguelike is to play it over and over again, and die over and over as well. Good luck!

Yeah that's how it's supposed to be.

Roguelites are kind of like old-fashioned games that don't have continues.
