Reloading by hitting fire or the reload key doesn't work?

my reload key is bound to left alt. easier to press than R

i use a controller, so i usually just hold down the trigger.

I also dont look at my character nor ammo, so most of the time im walking around with a empty gun due to no auto reload

If you're tapping/pressing for most guns like you should be, reloading isn't a problem as it will reload automatically, not needing to press a reload button.

No.

On a controller I set it to R1/RB. I naturally made it a habit to press reload during the little convenient times I find. It's inadvisable anyway to constantly be holding the fire button on something that requires a reload.

I generally do the opposite and keep most of my focus lon my character to make sure they're not avoiding hurty stuff appropriately.

Get full Gunknight armor. No more reloading needed!

Of course, good luck getting all 4 pieces in one run.

I'd still like this mod. Optimal play with a mouse is just spamming LMB so that you're shooting and reloading as quickly as possible while being able to focus on your own dodging, but after like thirty minutes of this it really starts to hurt my hand. There's just way too much shooting in bullet hells for click-to-shoot/reload to be comfortable for longer play sessions, you'll spend minutes at a time firing nonstop and every second of DPS counts, and you already have a lot on your plate just trying to not get hit yourself. FPS's get away with it because you're only shooting in very short bursts, and for those that do have you shooting as much as you do in EtG they'll feature an auto-reload so you can just hold LMB.

If just spamming LMB accomplishes the same thing, then just having an autofire option wouldn't make the game any easier. For the few weapons where autoreloading would get in the way, it'd be simple to just have it disabled for those few weapons. And then we could play without subjecting our hands to repetitive stress.

If someone can get into the gun stats they could mod this onto all weapons, there are some like the Bow, Crossbow and Grasschopper that reload automatically, so there's gotto be a flag in the weapon code for this. I'm all for auto-reloading!

yeah holding down the button should make the gun auto reload. honestly dont know why it doesnt by default.

i mean holding it down is already less dps than spamming anyway so people looking to min/max will still spam but for the rest of us auto reload would be a nice quality of life improvement.

I mean, I'd rather holding it down give you max possible DPS on a weapon anyways so that there's no reason to sacrifice your long-term health to beat out a tough boss, but yeah auto-reload would be a massive QoL boost. I literally don't play anymore because playing with the M+K controls is so uncomfortable.

Okay I figured out a controller workaround for this rather annoying issue.

I'm using an Xbox 360 controller here, but it should work for others as well.

So what I first did was change the normal right-trigger fire control to right-stick-click within the game itself (ie. it's basically unused now and the right-trigger has no function assigned to it by the game). This will prevent it from interfering with the solution below. (NOTE: This step above *must* be done).

I then use Xpadder key remapper software to specify left-mouse click on that right-trigger controller input instead...with "turbo mode" enabled set @ 0.20s delay.

This now allows me to simply hold down the right trigger and it cycles through firing/reloading continuously. It's truly a joy to play this game now...at long last :engineercat:

I provided a helpful image below for those who wish to use this method...

As for Xpadder, the last freeware version can be found here...

Or just install Mod the Gungeon and then this: https://modworkshop.net/mod/25177

Or preferably (since Mod the Gungeon has pretty much been discontinued and replaced with BepInEx), install r2modman, then this ( https://enter-the-gungeon.thunderstore.io/package/SpecialAPI/Emulate_the_Gungeon/ ), and then the mod above.

Also this for good measure: https://modworkshop.net/mod/36491

I never beat the game due to pain issues, I'll have to play this again now. Thanks!
