I also dont look at my character nor ammo, so most of the time im walking around with a empty gun due to no auto reload
On a controller I set it to R1/RB. I naturally made it a habit to press reload during the little convenient times I find. It's inadvisable anyway to constantly be holding the fire button on something that requires a reload.
I generally do the opposite and keep most of my focus lon my character to make sure they're not avoiding hurty stuff appropriately.
Of course, good luck getting all 4 pieces in one run.
If just spamming LMB accomplishes the same thing, then just having an autofire option wouldn't make the game any easier. For the few weapons where autoreloading would get in the way, it'd be simple to just have it disabled for those few weapons. And then we could play without subjecting our hands to repetitive stress.
i mean holding it down is already less dps than spamming anyway so people looking to min/max will still spam but for the rest of us auto reload would be a nice quality of life improvement.
I'm using an Xbox 360 controller here, but it should work for others as well.
So what I first did was change the normal right-trigger fire control to right-stick-click within the game itself (ie. it's basically unused now and the right-trigger has no function assigned to it by the game). This will prevent it from interfering with the solution below. (NOTE: This step above *must* be done).
I then use Xpadder key remapper software to specify left-mouse click on that right-trigger controller input instead...with "turbo mode" enabled set @ 0.20s delay.
This now allows me to simply hold down the right trigger and it cycles through firing/reloading continuously. It's truly a joy to play this game now...at long last
I provided a helpful image below for those who wish to use this method...

As for Xpadder, the last freeware version can be found here...

Or just install Mod the Gungeon and then this: https://modworkshop.net/mod/25177
Or preferably (since Mod the Gungeon has pretty much been discontinued and replaced with BepInEx), install r2modman, then this ( https://enter-the-gungeon.thunderstore.io/package/SpecialAPI/Emulate_the_Gungeon/ ), and then the mod above.
Also this for good measure: https://modworkshop.net/mod/36491
I never beat the game due to pain issues, I'll have to play this again now. Thanks!
