What's the point of going to the Oubliette and Abbey of the True Gun ?
Not sure i get it, on the wiki it doesn't really say what it does. i know you get the crest of something in the oubliette that you have to put on the altar on the next floor. But what is it for exactly?

Just a challenge, that and 6 more itens .
The crest is used to place on the altar in the Gungeon Proper to open the Abbey entrance.

In the Abbey you get unlocks for defeating the boss.

Other than that It's really only good for getting more items, money, and boosting your kill number. Not a ton of reason to revisit it, but it's fun.

It's very good for getting more items and resources overall. I recommend going to both secret floors every run if you can.

The Abbey isn't really worth after you beat it once, unless you need to find Brother Albern.

The Oubliette, on the other hand, can be useful, since you get another shop, two chests and the boss is easy.

More items = more synergy potential. The more items you get also means you've taken items out of the pool of items to spawn, thus you increase the chance of getting your favorite items/godly items.

Challenge nd unlocks as of 'higher' purpose. Abbey is tough and boss is very spongy so profits for normal run are questionable. Oubliete however is most of time worth it, cause its boss and mobs arent too spongy or dangerous.
Each floor grants 1 key at least - if you didnt pick one through dropps, store will sell it and you get more money per floor than you need for key. Plus theres guranteed item from boss. So if you didnt get at least double green chest in first floor, it'd be a worthy roll to use those 2 keys to go for oubliette.

Abbey really isn't tough. Its enemies are fairly standard, around the same difficulty as Oubliette ones. Old King has a lot of HP, but I'd say that's really all he has going for him. He's just a slightly harder Bullet King otherwise. Sure, he has a few jammed attacks, but so does Kill Pillars and many consider those to be the easiest floor 4 boss.

Plus, unlike other floors, you get 3 chests, one of which is always unlocked in a secret room.

True, but personally secret rooms are 50/50 for me. If entrance aint in chet rooms, its hard to find. In the end Abbey is a matter of aamo to spare on King to make it worth of a hassle. If its for past kilin', abbey is a gamble cause if i can wreck King i might aswell wreck dragun nyways. Chamber 6 though is worth Abbeys gains indeed caue theres all help is welcome.

Good change of pace in both Oubli and Abbey. If you dont ruin run passing through, going in is a sure thing.

Oubliette is pretty easy, it' just free items.
The Abbey tho is really hard, especially the boss. Do not go ther if you're not having an OverPowered Run

I always kinda wished it had a larger purpose, like how in Spelunky you need to get the key to open the chest to find the black market to buy the ankh to- - -

Maybe that will come in a future update. For now at least, just extra sweg.

If all you want is defeating the past, either the forge shortcut or a regular (speed) run without shortcuts will suffice.

And yes, chamber 6 is precisely the reason you want to do secret floors.

I have to say that I've only done the abbey 3 times (because I'm a derp and sometimes I forgot I unlocked the staircase after killing the floor 2 boss), but that said, while the old king is fairly difficult compared to most bosses, you don't get punished for not perfecting him, and you have a relatively simple floor 3 to worry about afterwards for any damage the king deals to you, and frankly it's still easier than chamber 6.. I'd rather take risks early in a run than later anyway.

The bonus item for killing the old king the first time is one of those high tier items that's only B rank to boot (or was it A rank, I think B).

You need keys to get those items, keys you would have used to get there? I'm flummoxed
