How do you view item functionality in-game?

Is this like a Binding of Isaac thing where you have to guess what items do? Is there a way to view info without having to go to a wiki website? Is there a sane way of finding out this information within the game it self without experimentation?

Edit: Aha! There is an in-game method! You have to open the Escape menu and open the Ammonomicon.

Edit 2: This is more extensive than I expected.

Yeah, if you really wanna know what an item does, go to the EtG wiki.
Some things you'll notice, when they happen, others not so much.

And go for the Shifty Pig....for it is......shifty. :D

From my (very limited) observation you get a poor explanation when picking up an item and a reasonable explanation of what it does in the Ammonomicon.

Yeah, but it doesn't hurt to look an item up in the wiki.
So you don't get an unpleasant suprise in your run. ;)

i find its alot liek Boi, pretty fun to get random stuff and see how it works ^^ like i got a beer icon, said something like you;ll see double, and it makes you shoot double bullets lol.pretty cool stuff. glad i finally caved in and bought this. when it first came out i hated it so much!

I guess you're right, I should wiki things. The game does NOT indicate that using the lock pick item renders it impossible to use a KEY on the chest if the lockpick fails. The item only explains that the LOCKPICK can only be used once per chest.

hehehe, yeah, thats why i said look it up in the wiki. ;)
And there are many more guns and items with such nasty side effects, so everytime you get something new, just have a short look at the wiki.
Except for pig.
You do not need to look that up.
Its just shifty. :D
