Syndicate would be considered more of the Industrial Era.
Yeah that takes place around the time Abraham Lincoln was alive right?
Modern day would be sometime after the year 2000, maybe a bit before that?
But is it canon to the Assassin's Creed storyline? Hm, no
Is that an Assassin's Creed game? No
Ah yes okay sure
AC3 has modern day missions, which are nice. The comics were primarily focused on modern day also.
But as for a full game -- probably the closest thing within sight is that one of the playable DLC characters for Watch_Dogs Legion will be an actual modern day member of the Assassin Brotherhood. The devs like to say that Watch_Dogs and Assassins creed don't share a universe but with the amount of signifigant crossovers they have done they might as well be cannon with each other. Technichly Legion is a bit sci-fi but is probably the closest thing to a full modern AC we will get for the forseeable future.
