Question about Gang HQ Detection

If the Gang Leader 'detects you', even if I don't enter combat, does that still count as being detected - thus ruining chances of the bonus money from stealth?

The reward is only lost when the game sends you a notification telling you so.

From personal experience, if only the gang leader detects you and you can go back to stealth immediately (within half a second, for example if you are already in a bush), the reward would not be lost, longer than that the reward will be lost.
If multiple enemies detect you at once the reward is immediately lost even if you somehow manage to return to stealth within half a second

Now what about if only the gang leader detects me, I go back into stealth immediately after trying to assassinate from bushes but obviously doesn't work on leader, he runs away after countering me then other enemies near him get the yellow alert status while I'm hidden?

Also, what exactly does the message say when you are fully detected inside Gang HQ?

Hi,

I always just headshot the leader or use a grenade to kill him so I dont have much experience with leader bush assassination. Sorry about that.

The message will say something like "you have been in open conflict for too long, bonus reward is now lost". You can leave the HQ area or quit to main menu then load back in to reset the HQ and try again. Or if you don't really care about the reward you can still finish the HQ objectives regardless. If I remember correctly the reward is only a few hundred pounds, if you fully upgrade your bank income you should get 35,000 pound per 20 minutes.
