The AI is dumber than in MGS2 !
I have been through European Extreme in MGS2 and everyone who knows what E-EX difficulty is or completed it has probably seizures because of that 25 Ray endbattle or the inhuman button mash choke animation at the end XD Anyway, I remember MGS2 being incredibly hard and I fired up the HD collection today on the Xbox 360 and to my surprise its still freaking hardcore... which brings me to MG GZ which seems almost like a breeze compared to MGS2 ! Even the AI seems dumber as you could never just hide in the back of the truck or just run to a chopper or hide in a cave and the AI would just simply walk away like in GZ :/

In GZ I always have that feeling that if I manage to get far away from the AI they just simply will ignore it and look their way, anyone else felt that way ? In MGS2 when they see you they search all over the place, its very scary especially when you hide in lockers :)))

It might be that MGS2 is very much tight quarters and its even harder than MGS3 on E-EX which isnt nearly as brutal as MGS2 on E-EX.

Maybe you should try messing around with cqc in gz or watch the 30+ minute youtube videos on how to do each and every cqc move in gz... Do you know about disarming enemy's weapons with cqc or being able to push enemy's into other enemy's or walls or off cliffs while holding them or even how to knock out enemies while you are holding them without strangling them... Or about the certain moves you can pull off depending on how close you are to an enemy or where you are located around the enemies body or the the speed at which you are approaching the enemy affects the various cqc moves you can perform...or the combos you can use... Or knocking enemies into walls and people. Or how you can take down multiple enemies at once with cqc... Cqc isn't just one button press in GZ... It's very varied compared to what I've ever seen or done in mgs3... I'd actually highly recccomend watch those long videos on cqc for GZ... Before you criticize what you don't fully know you can do...

I don't get your complaining about kicking people to wake them up in GZ? Your comparing it to snapping their necks in early games... But the two functions are totally different kicking has nothing to do with killing enemies like snapping necks... You couldn't pick up enemies in the earlier games and snap there necks you had to wake them up to grab them just like gz and in mgs 2 you had to wait for enemies to wake up to do so... Or you had to use the cooling spray which you got like 3hrs into the game... Also kicking is used for a non lethal sense you'd have no reason to kick an enemy unless you knocked them out and kicking only knocked them out again or woke them up, which there was no such function available in 2 tills about 3hrs into the game and snapping necks is a lethal function... TLDR I have no ideas why you are comparing a lethal and none lethal function from 2 different games when that are no where near the same thing...

And I didn't touch on this but knocking is returning in TPP ... It was confirmed and there's even gameplay footage of it all the way back from e3 this year...
