This cover system...
Seriously, screw contextual actions and whoever thought that they are a good idea.

If I want to take cover on something, I will say when I want to take cover on something. Placing that in the hands of a system that only works when it wants to is a horrible idea. I'm a big boy, I can decide when it is best to take cover and on what surface. I don't need to get sucked into cover whenever I crawl close to something, especially when it yanks me out of prone and forces me into crouching or standing.

There are 104 keys on a keyboard, use them.

Or maybe you shouldn't keep pressing the key that hard when you get close to a surface.

I do generally agree with OP on the topic. MGS has never had cover issues in the past, you brush up against a wall, nothing happens, you press hard into it and you stick.

That doesn't seem to be the case with GZ, you'll get sucked into cover if you get anywhere near a surface, and it's not easy to tell how good the cover will be before hand, which has caused me at least a few alerts.

Would like to see a different direction taken in Phantom Pain, but I actually sort of doubt there will be any big change.

ya and when you want to move to the other side Snake gets off the wall to turn around and you get spotted

What key? There is no "Take Cover" key, as that would be perfectly acceptable.

Unless you're referring to my "Walk forward" key, in which case I kind of need that to do...You know....Progress the game.

And keyboard keys aren't like analog sticks if you mean "Pressing it hard".

There are two modes for keyboard keys: On and Off, no inbetween.

Lightly holding a key and dropping a f***ing anvil on it produce the same results.

I hate it myself since Snake keeps going in and out of cover.

I hated it at first too, but trust me you'll get used to it

I agree, the cover system sucks. And it s not the only thing that suxx in this game.

There should be button for it, so that you can decide yourself when to press it and take cover next to wall. I think it was this way in MGS4 if i'm not mistaken.

What you must know is that this game was made with the gamepad in mind.

I never had any issues with the cover system, because with the analog sticks you can walk very slowly if you want and Snake will only get into cover if you push the stick all the way, so you have pretty good control on when you want to get into cover and when you don't, if you slightly push the stick towards a wall, Snake won't get into cover immediately.

There are some games that are meant to be played with the gamepad and this game is one of them.

If you play the game with a gamepad, you will realize that the cover system is great, because you go in and out of cover very easily and control it very intuitively, so if you are under fire, you can very quickly change your position, you are never going to be stuck moving sideways only in your cover.

But not with the keyboard. With the keyboard I can see the system becomes an issue. And you muts know that will most likely NOT be corrected for the "full" game.

I play with gamepad myself, but i must say that the cover system is sometime issue even with gamepad. As you say, you can move slowly next to wall and Snake won't go in cover next to wall, until you move faster to it. The problem is, there are situations when you need to haste and Snake sometime goes in cover next to wall when you are just passing it by running. As i said, simple button would solve it. Like it or not, you don't have full control over the character sometime.

I have to agree with the OP 100%. The game could desperately use a button to enter/exit cover similar to what so many other stealth games use. (most notably Splinter Cell Blacklist)

Yes I see that as an issue too.

Also, the camera on some parts doesn't work well. Particularly when moving between those tents near the entrance and going into cover behind one of those.

Outside of that, I see no issues with the mechanics that you simply cannot learn how to use, with a gamepad.
