METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES

METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES

Extracting Paz
Is the complete opposite of what I want from a MGS game. Feels like a poor man's Splinter Cell and that is not trolling. I don't want to be rummaging through 20 guards just to extract this useless woman. Tedious gameplay.

True but you don't get a feel for the game by watching videos.
True to a certain degree, going by some gameplay video of the phantom pain it looks like extraction is part of the story in the phantom pain, there is a video somewhere showing kaz extraction. Anyway, check out the wolf and other gameplay from the phantom pain, decoy is fun, fultrom recovery looks fun.

That's what MGS is all about...that's why it's a stealth game...
Maybe that's why you're tired of it already.Because you aren't playing it to it's full potential.

Maybe I'm just tired of the genre in general. 25 yrs and I'm sick of this kind of missions in games. I'm probably just getting old.

I enjoy the actual stealth mechanics. I think the game definitely has a lot of promise.

I just turned it off and couldn't be buggered going through with another escort mission. I had the same feeling with Splinter Cell blacklist when it kept forcing gun fights on you. Just urgh.

Your words, "tired of the genre".

You did say an escort (actually you carry Paz, not escort her) is not what you wanted out of an MGS game. MGS2 you carry Emma out of the Tanker section, and MGS3 you escort EVA through the jungle, avoiding dozens of guards on your way to the Boss fight. It's not reminiscent of Splinter Cell in the least, you act as if escorts are new to the MGS series.

If you don't like the main mission, you can still play all the other side missions. Others, and myself, have stated as much, but you have not acknowledged this fact at all. The other missions have the optional extract (carry, not escort) of POWs and prisoners, hell you can extract guards if you want to. Those missions include (**SPOILERS**:

- Execution (or possible extract) of 2 enemy soldiers
- Procuring a cassette tape from enemy soldiers
- Covering Kojima's escape from a chopper with unlimited ammo (sort of an escort mission)
- Destruction of 3 Anti Air guns, and a tank
- 2 special missions, objectives are more for fun than actual relevance in the MGS world

The main mission, and most of the other missions listed all require you to infiltrate the base with stealth, regardless of the objective. You can tackle it any way you want, even non-stealthy, so there are a plethora of options.

Seriously, why complain about the main mission when there are tons of other side missions you can play, which have a ton of replay value and are probably more rewarding. I'm sure anybody who is even the least bit informed of what MGSV Ground Zeroes even is knows that the main mission is an extraction mission of 2 prisoners. That much has been disclosed in reviews, and more importantly in the friggin trailer (seriously the Steam trailer puts it front and center, go watch it). It's not as if it crept up on you and bit you on the ass.

And yes, I'm coming off as an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. But instead of consulting the abundance of walkthroughs and guides on the internet, you came here to complain about your discontent for the main mission, stating it is not what you had envisioned the game would be about and called it tedious. MGS has had escorts/extractions in the past, regardless of your feelings towards the objectives, and the "tedious" nature of the extract is pretty much negated by the tools you have at your disposal: Reflex mode (!), suppressed rifle, silenced tranq gun that works from 300m+, tagging enemies with binos, etc.

Use the tools at your disposal, sorry if I don't have empathy for you, complaining about how hard it is when all of the aforementioned can help you easily get through it.

TL;DR:Just try to bear through the first mission and then you can play the better missions.

Too late, I did read it.

I haven't played any of the MGS games since the SOL substance edition - Revengeance was cool but no stealth involved.

So far as I remember there was a missoin in Metal Gear Solid where you had to carry Otacon towards the last mission - (iirc it was before you got on the jeep or truck at the end. Could've been a snow-mobile.)

MGS1 was only 1 mission. And that was an escape scene. You didn't sneak through that and you didn't have to escort him.It was just Otacon and Snake driving away from Liquid while the whole place was going down.

You can throw magazines to distract guards, just cycle through your support item ("weapon" on the right) until it says "magazine". They are infinite

Don't throw them too far though. They only have a small effective range.

Yes, the knocks have a small noise range too, the point?

Is a short concise sentece which contains the point so confusing? There's not even ( from what I have found) a knocking mechanic in this game.
You don't like sneaking through guards? Son you are playing the wrong game series

For me the objective didn't really matter all that much, the level design was pretty awesome and for me that matters more. The were a lot of ways to approach the mission, it almost felt like splinter cell meets the open maps of hitman blood money, I had lots of fun playing the mission over and over. Of course that's just me, what entertains me doesn't necessarily entertain you and vice-versa.
