Liquid Ocelot

I never figured out how Ocelot was possessed by Liquid. Was it due to the Liquid's DNA that was mixed with Ocelot's one from Liquid's arm or something? But Ocelot wears a cyber arm in MGS4. I also did read somewhere that Ocelot was actually faking being possessed by Liquid, which is weird because before Liquid/Ocelot dies in MGS4, there is this effect how Liquid dies within Ocelot and true Ocelot starts to speak to Snake: "I am Liquid's doppelganger... and you are his. Just like your father... you're pretty good!".

What's the story behind this? Was it somehow explained in the game? If so, i guess i missed it.

For some reason, I also thought they said the Patriots were the ones behind Ocelot's brainwashing to think he's Liquid?

no actually it was Ocelot that pretended to be brainwashed to confuse the patriots, like a ruse for his real plan.

Nah, it was confirmed; not just hinted at.

Ocelot is the son of The Boss and The Sorrow.
It's further explained in the tapes EVA sends you in Peace Walker.

Doubt Kojima had it planned out when he wrote MGS2, but he did somewhat make it work without plot holes.
