You need to collect all XOF patches in the main mission Ground Zeroes.

Just like that? Both unlock that way?

Sure.

Are these supposed to be done in one go?

I just spent a heck of a time interrogating almost every guard, and I only managed to eke out the location of TWO patches only!

Also, they're too obscure for me to go hunting a needle in a haystack, and no I don't wanna consult a guide.

I found about 5-6 of the patches myself organicaly just by exploring the base, needed to use a guide to get the last few though (some of them are quite well hidden). Also remember that the patches can only be found in the main mission, not in the side ops.
I'll give you two pieces of advice that should help you without spoiling too much: some of the patches are on roofs of various structures around the base and you allready have one of the patches on start mission basically, you just need to find out that you have it. :P
My serious advice on this matter though: bite the bullet and check a guide if you have too much trouble. You definetly want to play the two extra missions and finding all the patches is not easy.

Yeah I realized it won't be easy cause the second time an interrogated guard told me about it, it was on top of the roof of one of those substation boxes. And I told myself, ♥♥♥♥ it, I won't be trying to find the rest of them like that.

So I mean, are those two missions really good? If so, it kinda sucks I have to resort to these extreme measures to play them (I frankly hate consulting guides, especially for collectibles...like what's the point right?).

You have video on youtube with locations of all patches. One patch is stucked on Big Boss. You have to roll few times left and right for patch to come off.

My fellow gamers, do I need to do all this in a single run?

I ask cause when I started a new mission and started rolling around to earn my first XOF patch in that mission, the counter stated "2/9", cause I had already found one patch in a previous run.

So I'm a bit confused now.

Nope, you don't have to collect them all in one run, just collecting each patch once is enough. The two unůockable extra ops are quite fun, both are full of easter eggs and references, I suggest you unlock and play them.

Oh wow, I just played the Jamais Vu mission...and it's pretty good! I like how the mission's design is such that it makes you engage in lethal combat, yet there is an achievement to stay out of the enemies sights. I got that achievement first time round...not sure how cause I'm pretty sure the enemy could tell where I was the moment my supressor failed once the reinforcements came in, and when I started using the AA gun.

Hah nice one, getting that achievement on your first run is quite a stunt, it took me few retries to get it right myself. In the phase where the enemy is throwing reinforcements at the chopper they don't really know where you are right away, they're after the chopper and if you eliminate them fast enough you won't even get detected even if you're suppresor has worn out, so I guess you must have a pretty stead aim... or you just got lucky. Anyway, nice. ^^

Just wanted to add important fact - yes, you can collect XOF patches in more than one run, but after obtaining all of them you NEED TO COMPLETE MAIN MISSION to get two Extra Op unlocked (Insignia achievement unlocks same way).
