How important is it to play Peace Walker?
I played a tiny bit of it, I have the HD collection on my ps3 but am wondering if im going to be missing a lot of story before I start playing ground zeros. I know its different from the others but from what I played I didnt care much for it. Should I give it another go?

You won't know the two prisioners you'll rescue in the main mission if you don't play Peace Walker.

It's very important. It revolves around Big Boss accepting his title, coming to terms with the events of MGS3 and deciding he will not become a pawn like his mentor, that he will abandon nations and fight for his freedom if he has to.

It also has a key moment, after beating the game you unlock the fifth chapter titled Outer Heaven, it shows the start of the war between Big Boss and Major Zero and how Big Boss prepares for that which leads straight into Ground Zeroes.

You won't understand what is happening and why is happened in ground zeroes without knowing what is happened in peace walker.

Not only that, but the ending also has a larger impact, I can't say why for spoiler reasons but if you just go play GZ without getting an attachment to the setting and characters of PW you'll just go "meh" at the ending while everyone else who invested tons of time into PW is like "OMG WTF!?!"

It's as important as MG and MG2 were for MGS. But I'm betting that didn't make you go back and play two 8-bit games for the story of that PSX game, right? Don't stress with it. Just play the game and if you get hooked on it, you'll naturally want to play Peace Walker.

I'm almost up to the end of Chapter 4 of PW but damn, I have pretty much lost the will to keep going, that game is such a chore to play. I really don't think I can force my way through.

just watch it on youtube, youll miss some of the option radio stuff but eh.

PW is a pretty junk story, honestly I cant really imagine anyone watching it and really enjoying it. It was a good handheld game though.

But yes it may feel like a chore because now youre just watching to gather information for V.

Pretty important;
but good thing there's an ingame synopsis of it you could check out & it'd fill you in on everything you need to know

The only downside is even upped to a HD resolution, it is still a PSP game which is not bad, but playing it on a regular console doesn't feel nearly as cool as MGS3. It's not that long though so if at some point you start to tire you can just rush through it in a few hours.

Peace Walker took me a bit of getting used to, too. But once I realized it was a PSP port and started to actually play it, I enjoyed it immensely. Its one of my favorite Metal Gear games. I'd strongly advise you to play it, as it gives weight and backstory to the events of Ground Zeroes.

to each his own, i dont think that either way is stupid, and reading a wiki isnt the same as playing through a game. been enjoing it on the ps3. so im getting what i need from it.

If you can find a coop partner you'll have even more fun. Coop made this the best metal gear, I really really hope they have it in PP, I don't want just base battles and online, coop will make PP shine if it has it.

Woah what really?!
I also went and recently bought the HD version of Peacewalker after originally assuming it was merely a spin-off game, but now realising it's part of the core canon after being confused from ground Zeroes.
Finished it the other week and watched the credits and everything and then just shut it off..
Damn I need to go back now :O
