It does seem that with the increased automatic nature of the CQC, enemy soldiers should have new ways to challenge your attempts. Like the Boss did.
sorry for having an opinion mom.
Seriously, I barely if ever used CQC in MGS4 because in 4 guns always felt like the superior solution to all situations, unlike in 3 where sometimes just chocking a dude was quicker and quieter. Even in 3 there were more CQC moves than I ever used because they weren't all really needed.
So, while I don't like dumbing down for casuals one bit, I can't really complain when the complicated CQC in 4 wasn't ever necessary or even efficient. So far in GZ, I don't feel like I'm limited in what I can do at all, and there's cool moves they don't tell you about that you never need as well. Like, I was unaware of the disarm move being available. I'm working it in to my moveset now, but really I never needed it and I still don't. Honestly it isn't even extra helpful it's just kinda fun on it's own as a thing you can do.
Since it's a new engine, thus they have to recode everything, I'm willing to bed they shaved off some CQC moves simply because they were redundant or uneeded.
Like, why would they dumb this down "for casuals" when it was never needed and never held you back? Whether it's dumbed down or not, player experience should overall be identical because the majority of complicated CQC in 4 was just there to be cool and wasn't needed.
"Dumbing down" only ever has meaning when it's in relation to core mechanics. CQC hasn't been core since MGS3.
