METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES

METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES

Is this game really just one mission...?
I've put hundreds, maybe thousands of hours into MGS2 and 3, in my 50+ playthroughs, but skipped MGS4 and the newer titles...
Is this really all it is? Is this what the newer games in the series have become?

I beat the game incredibly fast, and that unlocked me some side ops... So I can repeat literally the exact same thing some more? The only difference is I go to a different part of the rather small map, each time I play it.

I went from the glorious masterpiece that is MG3 to... This...
What happened?

Somebody PLEASE tell me this game is just some kind of "take this and shut up" teaser for the Phantom Pain, and not the way this series now runs.

The whole thing is replaying one small map, for what appears to be only for... high scores?
Not to mention it can't even handle the basics of PC, no mouse control in the menus, even though if you enter the options menu it gives you a mouse, and even has left/right click controls bound, but only to what your keyboard selects? What even? Why did you even give me the mouse in the first place if I can't freaking use it?

This is just... Snake scented garbage.

Until now, this had been my favourite series, and I couldn't speak negatively about it even if I tried, and now here I am, unable to even come up with a word that describes the garbage I just experienced.

If this is some sort of demo, or teaser kind of thing, like I said above, then this is actually an okay thing, minus it's inability to handle the basics of PCs... It played like a gimped version of what I expected.
If this is supposed to be a full on game though? ...

SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME I'M RANTING FOR NO REASON AND THE PHANTOM PAIN WILL BE AS AMAZING AS I DREAM IT TO BE!

Glad to help, from the sounds of it you'll enjoy TPP even if you found the content in GZ underwhelming. :archerrat:

Ground Zeroes is a prologue in much the same way the Tanker was to MGS2. Konami and Kojima decided to split that off from the main game for several reasons. It's a stop gap so players can get accustomed to the new way Metal Gear will play, while also being a means by which Kojima could cull feedback and improve The Phantom Pain. Yeah it's unfortunate that what is essentially a demo costs as much as it does, but what are you gonna do.

The Phantom Pain reportedly takes 40 hours to complete the main story, which is crazy long for a Metal Gear game, and the bulk of that time is gameplay, not cutscenes. There will be an additional 150 side ops available, as well as the F.O.B. mode, and later on MGO. The Phantom Pain will be massive compared to Ground Zeroes, so you're worrying about nothing.

This makes so much more sense, and I have literally no clue what F.O.B. or MGO are, and won't look them up until I'm currently playing them... But i don't even care, every single word of your post makes me happy.

FOB is forward operating base, and MGO is Metal Gear Online. And contrary to how everyone pronounces it, you actually say fob and not each of the individual letters.

"Is this game really just one mission" No, it has 7 missions.

It unlocks other missions after the first one (it also replays the credits after each one so just skip them)

So how long in length total are the amount of cutscenes put together or has anyone that has played it early said anything? I did know however 4 had a crap ton of lenghty cutscenes that could easily add an extra 8 hours to the game that took me about 2 hours to beat without them haha.

Oh well I enjoy the cutscenes anyway, did not like the 71 minute sequence though...I love the story but sitting there that long makes me get a bit meh, especially when it was stuff I knew about...otherwise I would of not minded lol.

You know that this is just a long demo for The Phantom Pain, right? TPP has a ~40hour campaign plus side missions and different approaches. I bet you can play TPP for 200 hours and still find new ways to complete missions. So stop crying and read up on what you buy before complaining.

Why the hell would you skip 4? How can you be THAT into 2 and 3 and skip over 4... i mean yeah it's not the best in the series fine... but what the hell. Next you're going to tell us you never played the twin snakes reboot... Dude go get a copy of MGS4 please.

Because PC Master Race, why waste my money on a console for a single game?

I skipped twin snakes but not all of us had a gamecube haha, I did however watch a video playthrough on it. Was pretty neat they introduce some of MGS2 mechanics in it but other than that dont think it was anything to get a gamecube over for a bit more intelligent AI and a first person perspective though.

I was gonna skip GZ and was going to preorder TPP a couple weeks or so ago but waited a bit then saw GZ came with TPP shortly after and was like killing two birds with one stone.

Honestly if it was not for that and the fact at the time I didnt know about the transfer bonuses I probably would have skipped GZ and kinda glad I waited to preorder to get a free copy.

I most likely will do that tonight, or at least a read a summery of the game's events now, and watch it all later on, since I don't think I'll manage to get the whole thing in before TPP
