I don't understand why there's not a simple drag and drop method just like hundreds of games
Also, probably because some games aren't really mod friendly that you still need a special launcher or another program to safely insert a new mod.
I mean, while you can just manually drag and drop mods on some games like skyrim and fallout, a mod manager is still recommended as it usually allows you to remove particular mods that you don't like rather than having to reverify your files all over again to go back to the base game in case you didn't make a back up for some files that was replaced by the mod.
