Controls in GZ compared to TPP
Just picked up GZ from the sale, and I'm coming into it with about 1.5k hours in TPP. I have to say, the controls feel awful in comparison.

It's easier to get stuck on cover. When you're in cover, moving in a different direction from where you're facing doesn't make you turn to face that direction, which makes it unclear what direction you're going to peek out of cover from. While in cover, you can't use your binoculars the way you would in TPP: bringing them up actually takes you out of cover, and it doesn't even peek over the top or the sides, it just leaves you looking straight at your cover. You can peek out with V, yes, but it's nowhere near the same function. The binoculars themselves are too sensitive and don't like to zoom in or out while moving around.

Holding up enemies is just painful now. Bringing up the interrogation menu gives you two or three options which aren't labeled and which can't be selected with the scroll wheel; experience from TPP suggested 1, 2, and 3 were the buttons for each, but holding Q and pressing 1, the most common choice, is awful. Additionally, you can't just select the question and move on, you have to hold it until the enemy finishes talking for it to register on your map or to be able to select something else. Knocking an enemy out and dragging his body into hiding, then kicking him awake in order to do a holdup, seems to require the soldier to stand all the way back up before he will recognize that you're holding him up and can order him to lay back down - I've had maybe two instances where it did the holdup while he was still waking up on the ground. In TPP, it's always an option to hold someone up as soon as they're conscious, ask where his friends are, and be moving on in under two seconds.

There's also dodging while running, which in TPP leaves you crawling on the ground to hide, but in GZ it just stands you back up afterwards unless you completely stop moving for a bit. I feel like there's a dozen more things, but the real point of this thread is this: the controls and responsiveness in TPP feel like a dream compared to GZ, and since both games are running off the Fox Engine, how do you get GZ to mimic TPP in that regard?

Ground Zeroes is the prequel to Phantom Pain. You were supposed to play Ground Zeroes first so controls are different a bit.

This. GZ is a demo, and kojimas first time using the new fox engine. Of course changes will be made. You seem to be so engrained with TPP controls that this will confuse you. That said animations are much better in gz amd its not because you play as bb in gz

Well, that's a shame. The close quarters and high number of guards is what TPP is lacking at nearly every outpost; there are mods which add more elements and guards into TPP but it's not designed for that. TPP controls on the GZ map would have been perfect. Thank you for the succinct reply.

You might want to fact-check yourself there a bit. While you may consider it to be a technology-demo of the Fox Engine, it was still designed, developed, and sold as a marketable product. The reason it has MGSV in the name just like TPP does is because it's part of that title and sets up the story.

I can't tell if the insult is intentional or simply a result of poor grammar, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. The controls did not "confuse" me, they are an objective downgrade when compared to TPP. What they did do is frustrate me, as was clear from the OP, especially since both games are using the Fox Engine and were released as two parts of the same title.

Not sure why you mentioned this as it is entirely irrelevant to the topic, as well as incorrect. TPP has numerous upgrades you can research that increase the player's speed while performing certain actions; this requires cutting out frames of animation from the normal-speed animation. The animations in GZ are slower and thus smoother, but it is the same base animation for the majority of them.

Oh boy... you clearly missed this thread https://steamcommunity.com/app/311340/discussions/0/2918850377444153648/
Animations on the outside look normal but you have to look deeper
gz was released almost a year before tpp was so it was in fact the first time kojima worked with it, but not konami's as they used it for games like PES
but i beg you not to play any other metal gear since the controls are not the same as tpp and you might end up being disappointed some more
Despite what you wanna believe gz is still a demo that sets up the story to tpp, like a short prologue with some extra side content https://steamcommunity.com/app/311340/discussions/0/152391995423402280/
