Spellforce series(1,2,3) is a hybrid RPG and RTS game.
Albeit some maps are pure RPG or almost fully pure RTS.
You have a main hero and you can choose many different"schools" for him/her+main character has leadership as a unique tree.
Mid-game you unlock a specialisation of a single school late-game skills which only the main character can use and companions can now get skills to level 3.
You will get companions(heroes) and each of them has some companion-only skills too and in rare cases might alter some dialog in the quests.
Skills usually cost mana and have cooldowns.
And you can buy the classic hp and mana potions and have the usual tier-colored items like in many RPGs.
You level up, choose skills upgrade gear, trade with merchants, and speak with NPCs, and in many missions, you also lead an army, build bases, and capture sectors. Research RTS unit upgrades.
The game also has a prologue which is more than an hour long where you play with predetermined heroes basically a tutorial.
Good idea to make a save before finishing the prologue so you can create new char faster as you can not skip it.
The game has RTS on higher difficulties RTS campaign is very hard likely on par with brutal on SC2.
You can switch difficulty at almost any time.
Difficulty significantly affects player heroes' resistance, "RPG" type enemies(eg.Wolf, Golem) get slightly more damage and stronger resistances sometimes becoming immune to a damage type on the hardest diff.(you can use debuffs).
Enemy RTS units have the same stats but RTS AI will get an eco boost, be much smarter, and can make many unit types on harder difficulties.
The RTS part of the game is harder than the RPG side.

the combat is not round based
