If you still can't do it try to do the elves mission first.
I have found in all the RTS missions though the key to victory is watchtowers, build two at the map chokepoint with your heroes guarding them while they are built, upgrade them, then they can infintely handle enemy attacks though may struggle against enemy ranged heroes without a handful of backup troops.
I'll get some screenshots of them for you, they work wonders for me.
Then I did it last and it was easy becuase I was nicely leveled and had good equipment.
Do the humans and elves first and you'll be fine.
A line of pikemen here to block off enemy raids from this part, and to protect passing carts.

To show where it is on map.

Small base here for the enemy to throw wave after wave at.
Be sure to set your pikemen to hold their ground and to build 3-4 towers at the outpost in the screenshot. The enemy will not attack anything else, that is unless you start taking the top parts of the map.
Personally I just kill the leaders and takeover the tribe, ♥♥♥♥ being peaceful.
At the very least, the map IS rushable, if you don't mind having The Betrayal on your failed quest list. It's also definitely easier if you gain some more levels by doing the elf and human quests first.
I'm starting a new CM difficulty run, so I'll try to do Foot of Barga Gor first of the three and see if I have any additional advice after.
I haven't replayed since this last patch... If they reduced the AI force # or pulled their upgrades the mission would be much easier...
erm unit upgrades only really drop by the same faction so that is not really possible unless you got really lucky in the random loot drops
it is for sure changed with the patch cause i noticed a bunch of bugs fixed like killing the first warchief half of the units ally with you as opposed to them all going hostile and the godstones not going neutral after you finish the map
not to mention it was super easy this time^
oh and i always do the orcs first mainly because you get 2 excellent companions that replace the subpar isgrim
you could take them and change the map again if you wanted but i just move on
i don't know about about your game, but by the time I finished the elves and humans recruitment quest I had 6 different schematics for the orcs yes I found more for the other factions, and they tend to be as you suggested more common for the faction the mission is for, but I definitely got them for ALL factions in each zone... There was human and eleven schematics in the orc zone...
The thing with orcs is, yeah their defences suck, but they get access to early cavalry for a cheap cost.Compared to other races i found it very easy to assemble an early game rapid reaction force that wasn't my heroes and go on the offensive.
