What was the reason behind low ratings?

I never played the game.
I saw it so many times before on Store page and I never really bothered to check what it was about.

I always thought it was some generic fantasy rpg, until recently where I actually saw some real gameplay when I realized it was sort of RTS/RPG mix which got me interested.

But then I ran into mixed reviews and not sure what to think :/
Is the game worth buying in 2018?

You know that kind of fanboy that makes the dev so lazy and passive, the support, few signifficant patches, poor quality attempts improovments, absense of tests before launch, and extremly poor experience and none replayability in rts title and former-strong franchise, you could throw your money in any garbage, that will not going to make a bad game into a good game, at all. Well for one the launch was really buggy and if you're like me where you still keep getting the stuck at initializing logic loading bug, even though your hardware surpasses all recommended requirements. No idea why they haven't been able to fix it yet and the only reason I haven't given it a negative review is because I'm actually interested in the game and haven't played through it enough to give an actual detailed review.

-The game had some bugs in story mode, that have been fixed later.

Mostly fixed. I've still encountered two (so far) quest bugs that could only be fixed if I reloaded an old save.

No you didnt still to buggy ! And the developer make it look like its good now but its not ! i feel also like that nobody will act like that ! And my dear friend you dont need to try to make me looking bad make your game looking good thats the way ! and i just tell the truth of my experience ! So finaly i here its Abadoned wow thats why i feel not good with sales ! For i think an Update will handle this ! I play on 40 - 50 fps and its good like that ! But the stability is a mess find a way to make it run good and you can even meke good money with sale but if you deliver crap thats what you get ! look at scum they listen to the player !

Want it to run good and stable? Get at least recommended specs then, it helped me.

Smh some people. The game did have a seriously ♥♥♥♥♥♥ start and other issues but you two are overreacting especially considering the fact that the issues you have now are related to your hardware mostly.

6 months for a meagre update, I see indie devs in more complex projects delivering more with 1/100 of the budget without the name Spell Force Series behind it, dont a be a douche fan boy, the game isnt good and the numbers speaks for itself. People are acting perfectly normal, since they invest their money and time they should be respected with was promissed, and an unfinished product wasnt. They should gone to early acess. This is sad to no say shamefull for the dev and for the publisher. I surely will avoid them after this.

My opinion the

RPG portion of this game is 9 / 10 its great can't recommend it enough

But

The RTS Portion of the game is 1 / 10 its horrible and can't not recommend it enough...

Which leaves me very perplexed, I litterally Love and Hate this game all at the same time!!!

Launch was a disaster. There are still bugs and I see a lot of minor ones while playing like portraits or repeating dialogues that shouldn't be repeated. They allow much freedom and you can completely cheese a lot of the future RTS sections before they begin such as destroying their buildings before the enemy RTS brain takes over.

That said - I like the game. I'm 39 hours in and still playing. That's probably more time than I've put into Starcraft 2 singleplayer I'm fairly sure. I may be in the minority but I even enjoy the RTS sections. About the only issue I've had is pathfinding on a few maps (bridges + large number of troops is a mess). RPG section to me is probably the more boring of the two sections, especially once you "eclipse" the challenge.
