See it as something that the devs are even willing to introduce new stuff.
However I do share your enthousiasm about the different unit slots :P
Even the refit of the heroes into orc version. I was honestly surprised :O
On a side note: would have liked to see some female Orc units in the game. Purley for eye candy...erhm, inclusion and diversity of course. RIght? Inclusion and diversity... :D

Haha, sure 'research', would be fun if they did that. The game is already great in the graphic department. Who knows what the future might hold?
'Were' beeing the operative term... :D
Seriously, though: Orcs are a fantasy. An imagination. Warcraft Orcs ar different from Warhammer Orcs and both are different from Lord of the Rings Orcs. (Warcraft Orcs do have healing magic btw.)
So why can't Spellforce Orcs be different again? Becaus 'it's never been done before'?. That's not an argument.
No, i do not mean orcs in generall.
I'm specifically talking about Spellforce orcs. They already have a very detail depiction in the former two spellforces and healing or Paladins is just not what they do. That does not fit with their Traditions, their religion as well as their life style. A paladin might work to a degree as long as everything that has to do with light and healing is taken out of the equation (allthough then you can just call it Defender which is an actuall Orc job) but healing via magic is an absolute no go and actually not fitting with the spell force lore.
As i said above, I'm specificaly talking about Spell force orcs, not Warhammer orcs, not Warcraft orcs, not Tolkien orcs.
Orcs in Spellforce are etablished, they have lore behind them and they do not use healing magic.
Yesterday I wrote this post with the impulse...maybe you are right. I should be open minded, if developers decide to make paladin orc...fine, I just won't play him (I can choose different heroes).
Anyway, as we can see that units varies, so I believe that every race might have their own set of heroes (different skills etc). :)
I believe these heroes, is just for purposes of beta version :) And later on, each race shall have their own set of heroes with different skills etc :)
Huh, gues i haven't considered Spellforce 1 & 2 lore. So, would it be possible that certain tribes jsut do things differntly? They don't all have to follow the stereotype, right? Just like not all humans are devout paladins, do all orcs have to be bloodthirsty killers?
Exactly, we can't forgot that the orcs exist out of many clans, even possible exiled clans for having a different view on many things then the 'regular' orc. At most you can say orcs have a disdain for light magic, but that doesn't mean they outright never use it.
Think of it like this if you want to follow logic. The factions have skirmishes and wars between each other, that much is known. If orcs go to war with a faction that uses healing magic, don't you think that the orcs would have massive causalities because they refuse to use it? While the other factions keeps its numbers pretty steady. Potions and balms can only go that far ..
It doesn't have to be super pure light/healing magic on a similar level elves and humans use, it can even be a crude form that they developped themselves as a off branch from the 'light' version.
We can't forget the rules are a bit different here. This is a world that isn't influenced by the Convocation war and the shattering, they could have different views on many things here.
Up until now we have only see things from within a shattered EO and not when the world was still a whole.
Also in SP 1 we saw and know that sometimes Elves don't shy away from dark Magic even though most are abhored by it. The elves are the 'archetype of light magic yet they use dark magic. Why can't the same thing be said for orcs? The reason? Because of 'Nature'. Nature isn't inherently good or bad, it contains life and death and still is classified as light. And orcs don't exactly shy away from nature.
If possible, could you give me a lore argument from the past games where there has been said for a 100% that orcs don't/never use healing magic?
