Keep in mind It's my first dip in the spellforce universe.

This could have been a great game. I don't mind the mix of rpg/rts, I just finished replaying through all the starcraft 1/2 campaigns and loved it.
But the RTS part of the game just sucks. hard. Constant alerts of being attacked, no idea whatsoever what buildings do, or how the economy works. Poor UI. Non existant help/tutorial (the idea of short video was awesome, even if I felt a bit looked down upon, but the content is lacking: knowing where the buttons are is fun and all, but that doesnt explain anything about the gameplay). Even tho, I played my fair share of beta and unfinished/unpolished game, so, I keep going. It doesnt seem to matter where you build stuff. your units are undistingishable from the enemy's. You litterally can't destroy a building if you're not micromanaging your army to attack the worker repairing it (by the way, they spawn fast, like, really too fast), because the repair speed of one guy outpace the damage of 7/10 of your guys. Plus the building attacks your units, making it an excellent wxay tolose your forces because you were watching one of the many,many,many alerts the game gives because 1 enemy soldier is randomly attacking stuff in your base.
This could go on and on. The RTS part of this game is by far the worst I have ever seen. And that's from someone that played alpha of indie strategy game. At least in those you could see the potential of what the developper have in mind. Here, there's nothing. City building sucks and seems to have no effect whatsoever. Unit are unenthousiasmic (if that's even a word) because, no matter what you do, it'll end up being an attrition battle, tug-of-war like, between your and your enemy's economy. Economy, that, btw, is only presenting chokepoints and is, to say the least, uninteresting.
I won't even comment on the fact that technologies are locked behind items that you have to find on the map with your heroes during the rts part (apparently, it's common knowledge in the spellforce community that you have to ignore the prompt of npc and explore the map before any interaction with them, or you risk to be engaged in a battle you can't win because you haven't found the blueprint for a building necessary for victory. And you just don't have time to look for it because... it's a RTS game..
But, if you go in a cavern on the map, the battle outside stops. Meaning you can, for example, look at the option offered for leveling your heroes... Or to choose what spell to put in the very unsufficient quick access bar.
Oh, cherry on top, you can pause the game, but you're then locked out of such things, or from reading helps and tooltips...

At one point, I realised I dreaded to have to play the rts part of the game. And I'm still looking for a way around it.

I only bought this one to play the campaign, since its a lot like the Rexxar maps in Warcraft 3 TFT. Its a great game, entertaining and easy to get from the get go. Cant think of too many cons for this one.
