Sovereign improvements and privileges
At the moment the Sovereign does not stand out enough as the supreme ruler. They used to be regarded as divine manifestation, god's presence among man.

This should be apparent in special clothing and items only the sovereign can use or at least fully equipped & with a riding horse.

To be eligible for this position you should have the highest tier residence and a title in the nobility tier and either a minimum amount of reputation in the city or a certain amount of influence points.

Also, it is super easy to get rid of a sovereign, by just plainly attacking/killing him/her.

He/she should have the privilege "bodyguards":
At least one or two (depending on the size and crime rate of the city even more!?) well equipped, decently leveled characters that follow the sovereign wherever he/she goes.
As long as at least one bodyguard is alive, the sovereign gains the buff "protected", that means you cannot attack (apply damage) or kidnap them. Once you managed to take out all the guards, the sovereign loses that buff making them vulnerable until the end of that round.
At midnight, killed bodyguards are replaced with new ones, so you better take them out in one fell swoop.

After an unsuccessful attack against the sovereign, you gain the temporary "outlawed" debuff (making it legal for everybody to attack you).
Also after an attack, city guards could gain a buff "alarmed", increasing their alertness (increased detection radius for some time).

Yeah, the sovereign should appear in cloths of the best, only on a horse back, with at least the title of a duke. There's a castle in the game where His/Her Highness could live whenever his/her manor feels too small, too shabby. I recommend a crown on his/her head alongside the other privileges of a ruler. Sovereigns wore crowns which were simplier than the monarch's crowns but a unique sign of their position. The supreme ruler is not the player but the AI. You can't reach the highest social and political rank in this game. To me this makes sense because having an overlord keeps me grounded, stays a bigger challange than being God's deputy.

Of course a sovereign needs always bodyguards in a time of political murders.

I forgot: When myself sovereign I want people call me 'Your Highness' in the game. The monarch uses my first name. To be called 'Your Highness' could be pain in a multiplayer game but also funny. But for NPCs and AI Dynasties 'Your Highness' should be common.

In one of my SP games the sovereign was a low level and just stood around idle.

In all of my games, the sovereign was a squire.

I guess they changed it in the patch where they reworked the sovereign.

lol i just murdered the sovereign and anyone else who was applying to be sovereign. a couple of times i did it in the MIDDLE OF THE MARKET OF NEW TOWN, magdeburg. it wasn't even hard - that may have been because when i had most of the government i reduced the number of guards to the minimum everywhere, and because by the time i started doing this, all the other families had died, so no one even pressed charges.
